|
|
The 77 Porsche project is safely home in my garage. Spent the past few days cleaning out the interior and engine bay. I did find some parts in the rear hatch area, (new spark plug wires, fuel filter, gaskets, etc.) Of course I also found over $2 in change!
There was obviously some nesting of varmits in the engine bay. There is some chewed up wiring, vacuum hoses, and I found a nest complete with a horde of nuts under the intake plenum.
I ordered a new vacuum hose kit as mentioned in a thread below, and of course a Haynes repair manual.
The first concern I have is the harness that runs from the positive battery cable to the alternator as been chewed up bad. I guess the cloth covering makes delightful nest material. Would this harness be available new? I have put out a few emails out to people parting out 924's.
I guess I'm going to need a parts list so I can call Porscge dealer on some parts...

You can just buy a few lengths of wire and make your own replacements up.. wire stripper/sharp knife, a set of crimping pliers and a soldering iron are pretty much all you need. _________________ Mars Red '78 Euro 924 n/a

The piece of wiring that you inquired about deteriorates from battery acid running down from the battery tray anyway.
I would not waste my time and money trying a used part. The part was available from Porsche separately for a VERY reasonable $20 years ago. Try your locak authorized Porsche Dealer to see if you can still get it. Or better yet, go to you local magazine store, and get a copy of Excellence Magazine. Numerous Authorized Porsche Dealers advertise in there with toll-free phone numbers and offer hefty discounts from Porsche List Price on Genuine Porsche Parts. |

Great advice guys. I think the animals got to it before the battery acid.
I'll give a Porsche dealer a call and see if anyone still has it.

Hey trumpeter, I know where Paxton is. I spent four years at the former Chanute Air Force Base in Rantoul. I was the president of the base sports car club, and was on the board of the Champagne County Sports Car Club. Is that club still around? _________________ 1980 924 Turbo |

I sure will Dave!
Are you still racing?
One of my Marine buddies, (Joe Aurand) used to race an RX7 in the Colorado Springs area.

I haven't been doing any lately, but I have been looking at property where I can build a shop, so I can build a new race car. _________________ 1980 924 Turbo |

Trumpeter summit racing probly has the heat shield. You can get cool tape, or cool tubes which has a fiber glass outer tubing or a heat sheath which is pretty close to stock that youed get from the dealer for far less
money. Try summit racing. There on line _________________ 1979 porsche 924 Na

I will have the starter out today so I can fully determine the wiring problem. I think you may be right. If I can fab it myself, that would probably be the best way.
There is also a guy here on the board that might have one, so I'm going to send him a pic and see if it is correct.
