I was wondering if any of you guys could help us. Dad is looking for a furnished bachelor apartement in Toronto (Not Expensive) for 2 or 3 months. Can you help... any sugestions ?!
Thanx in Advance

Thanx for your replies.
I have been looking for Bachelor apartments, and yep toronto is expensive . In which areas of GTA would be better to settle in ??? How about Nova Scotia ??
Dad will be looking for a job, so he needs to settle in an area where he could look for a job. Any where in Canada would be great except Montreal, becuase we were in Montreal, and it was one of the reasons that pushed us to Lebanon.

whats wrong with montreal? I thought it was more like europe.
vancouver is a nice place but its expensive here too.
Places that are cheap to live at usually mean its harder to get a job and jobs pay less... thats what I think. _________________ 78 924 sold.

Nova Scotia isn't located in the Toronto area.
What kind of work would he like to do? You can live in Nova Scotia fairly cheaply in a safe, quiet neighbourhood. You can cross the city in 10 minutes with low traffic, so distance to work shouldn't be an issue when choosing a place to live. Ask question if you have any. |

First of all, i love Montreal, becuase i was born there and i have lived there for 6 years, but we see that areas other than Quebec are better to aquire a job especially Toronto (also i have forgot my french ).
I thought that Nova Scotia would be an alternative, since Halifax's second official language is Arabic.
Dad used to be the Regional Manager of the Middle East for Hansgrohe AG, europe's 2nd largest sanitary (faucets). So he is looking to work in the same domain, and he also knows about the Kitchen cabinet buisness, so he might work in that domain too. He is an interior designer by college education.
Any decent job offer would be welcomed

What about Canac? They make excellent Kitchen Cabinets, but I don't know what part of Canada they are located in. _________________ 1980 924 Turbo |

According to Stats Canada French is the second official language in Halifax. Arabic is the most used non-official language. |

It sounds like he could work in a Kent or Home Depo kind of place. They hire people with actual experience in say, kitchens, plumbing, windows, etc.... Not just kids in high school so he should make a couple or a few bucks more than minimum wage, if he went into a department. If they recognize his skills, perhaps after some training in company policy he could be a department head or go into the assistant managers program. It may take a year or two to learn the stock and policies, they may even want him on the floor to make sure he's a people person but it seems up his alley. I knew a guy who was assistant manager at a Kent store and he made around 40k. A Safety Manager I know makes around the same but they have been in the same business for nearly 20 years and in the same store for 10. So I guess they could have had raises over the years that would see them make more than a "new guy" off of the street. Also, there are many trees in Nova Scotia {and Atlantic Canada}, he could build wood products in his basement if he wanted to. There is a market here for anything made out of wood. We just bought a beautiful cabinet from a guy a few blocks over. It is 8 feet tall, 2 1/2 feet wide, it has a wooden back all glass sides and front with a light up top and down below with 4 doors. Sound nice? it cost $300 bucks when the same type sold in store would be 3 or 4 times as much. There are a lot of fishermen [trucks] so everyone has a friend with a truck. Also, if he gets in a wood products store, he gets a discount on all wood and tools.
He could also work in the construction business I guess. There is a rapidly growing population {some help from the immigration efforts by the federal and provincial governments}. And homes are going up at an enormous rate. Entire subdivisions are being placed back to back, the downtown core is being refurbished, expansion is rapid and continuous. We are even talking about a mass transit system to bring people directly into the city centre from any outside section of Halifax Regional Municipality.
Any questions you have, ask |

I don't want to pry or be insensitive but, if you guys are in a minority, you could probably get a loan from the government to start your own business. If your father wants to go down that path { it's not for everyone }. We have a network of people in the government and non profit organizations who "look out" for new comers. And if you have marketable skills, all the better. The federal government has a branch called ACOA {Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency} that gives money and assistance to new business' {to get you off the ground} and existing ones {to help with expansion}. You could apply for a loan or a grant. If you meet certain requirements, the loan doesn't have to be paid. Just ideas.
Here is a map of the centre of Halifax Regional Municipality:
