1. My valve cover says "Zundfolge", with two dots over the "u". Could someone please tell me what this means, or is it a place name?
2. When I went to use my wipers for the first time on Thursday, they wouldn't work at all, except for going up 1", then back down once. Then on Sunday, I hit a bump, and my wipers came on and wouldn't shut off. Does this sound like it will require pulling the steering column? Perhaps a short?
3. I would like to pull the fuse to disable the wipers until I can get it fixed. Where is the fuse box?
4. Which fuse controls the wipers?
5. If I pull this fuse, what other functions will I disable?
6. If I'm looking at pulling the steering column, would it be easier to bypass the steering column switch and put a toggle switch on the console?

Your assistance is appreciated.

Zündfolge means firing order in German.

You can disable wipers by pulling the wiper motor plug under the hood near the windshield.

I pulled the intermittant wiper relay. Now I can turn the wipers on and off on my own.

Grounding problems commonly cause the horn and wipers to malfunction while the switches are really ok. If there's a metal plate there at the top of the switch assembly where the screws go through (as there is on the 3 screw assembly), you probably have some oxidation built up between the screw heads and that plate. Remove a screw at a time, scrape the small area of the plate where the screw contacts it with something like a small sharp screwdriver, replace each screw and work your way around. In addition to this, some people put a small star washer (toothed washer) on each screw to give them some bite and improve the ground. I did this fix to my own car to fix a windshield wiper problem.
That fixed the wipers-turning-themselves-on-randomly problem when I had it. It's caused by loss of grounding at the switch which causes the relay to activate the wipers. Cleaning the ground there usually eliminates the problem. Remove the steering wheel to get to the metal plate.

I believe it's a 24mm socket if I remember right? You just carefully pull off the horn pad, disconnect the horn wire from it, and then take the steering wheel off, there is a contact ring on the back of the wheel and the switches are on the column mount still. Make sure you center the steering wheel first or it can be hard to find where it needs to go to be straight without driving and adjusting it.

Zündfolge is one of the many German words you'll learn, like auf=on, I can't remember what oil is but it's under the hood. Zündfolge is my favorite though
