|
|
Having just spoken to my local parts place it seems that they dont list a head gasket kit for the 924. Therefore he could only give me a price for an audi 100 kit which neither myself or him could be certain was definitely going to be right! Can anyone confirm if this kit would do the job?
Also are the bolts stretch type? ie require replacing? _________________ 1980 924LUX |

not to sure about the audi fit.
IIRC the 924 head gasket is discontinued, they sell the 924 turbo(931) as the replacement. have the parts shop check for this part. _________________ 1982 924 NA 85K owned since 1992

924 head gasket appears on ebay every now and then. Parts houses do have them but you have to look. The turbo gasket is available as well.
I've always been told (and have done it several times) that the turbo gasket is an improved design and should be used instead of the n/a gasket. |

From what I have read on this forum some head gaskets are crap.
Do a word search. _________________ Porsche 924 1984 (UK import) NA

Dan,
your best bet is German Swedish & French or Euro Car Parts. You'd be looking at about 80 quid, though!
You might also give Design 911 a look; they're in your neck of the woods.
Cheers,
Mike. _________________ 1985 Porsche 924 'Lux', Kalahari Beige (my ex)

Just checked Euro Car Parts.
They have Goetze head sets in stock, part no 362330081, for £51.69 including VAT and carriage. _________________ 1985 Porsche 924 'Lux', Kalahari Beige (my ex)

I just checked NAPA and their site shows the same gasket set for turbo AND N/A (0322551). I know this is incorrect, so be careful. This is not uncommon, as many suppliers list the same plug wires as well. The correct turbo headgasket is stronger and many on here use it on the N/A 924. The OEM gaskets for these engines are Victor Reintz, which are sold by NAPA. Best bet is go with a specialist like Vertex, Pelican, or dealer.

Just to be different I always use Fel-Pro if I can. I have never had a problem in all my years of wrenching when I have used their gaskets. When I put the Euro engine together 2 years ago I used a kit from Fel-Pro and I have zero leaks, even the rear main seal which can be temperamental. Of course YMMV, technique is very important too, as well as cleanliness and proper tooling. _________________ Dan Flanagan--2002 VW Jetta TDI, 83 Mercedes 300D,83 Mercedes Euro-240D |

thanks guys I'll look into it - Mike there's a GSF nearby so will try them first
turbo gasket gives a little more compression doesnt it? think i read that somewhere? which is odd as you'd expect it to be the other way round! _________________ 1980 924LUX |

The difference in compression is largely taken care of by the different piston and head designs; the difference in gasket thickness probably doesn't add a great deal - even if it is the 'wrong' way. _________________ 1985 Porsche 924 'Lux', Kalahari Beige (my ex)

I got the set from Eurocarparts as mentioned by Mike, no probs with it and there's everything in the pack you need to do the job properly. _________________ Mars Red '78 Euro 924 n/a

The na and turbo headgaskets are now one and the same. The original na number has been superceded to the turbo part number. The na and turbo gasket kits use the same head gasket, but the turbo kit has extra gaskets for exhaust/etc.
The headgasket area can change the compression significantly - on a 9.0:1 na, you would see 12:1 with no headgasket. Doesn't take much area to change the ratio dramatically. However, it seems that the na and 931 gaskets are very close to the same thickness. You might gain 0.01 compression points, but don't expect much.
