May seem like a stupid question to some but there are very few 924's in Montana to compare to! It fits to the body rather than than the hatch. I can't tell what actually holds it on. I think it uses something like molding clips. It's not glued.

I'd vote for after-market.
Click on today's picture (the Martini) for a similar body-mounted rear spoiler. _________________ 1979 924 (Gone to a better place)

It's not stock, or at least I never saw one at a Porsche dealer when these cars were new. _________________ White 87 924S "Ghost"

Interesting. I do know it seems to be made of the same material as the stock ones. Thanks guys!

I agree, not stock. Have never seen one like that.

I'm guessing it's a very common material for that period (and later). You could get aftermarket (and stock?) ones for the old 3 Series BMW's that appear to made of exactly the same stuff. And both my parents SAAB's have rear lip spoilers made of it... _________________ '80 924 Turbo |

Be carefull with that rear spoiler! I had one its now gone from the car, Yes it looks good but if it was not installed correctly it will ROT out. Open your hatch and remove the carpeting and take a look inside along the edge that bugger is held on by screws and if they were not sealed and if water does/has gotten in it will soften the rubber of the spoiler where the screws connect it to the body of the car. The spoiler traps water and if the water stays trapped between the body and the spoiler those screws will rust and that rust will eventually if it hasnt already will rust the body of the car where the screws go through. My spoiler was not installed correctly somewhere in its life I had this problem. The spoiler was completely rotted out where the bolt connection points were. Upon removal you could litteraly pour the water out from the holes in the spoiler where the bolts were. Remove your spoiler and check the condition of it and body where the bolts pass through. If its good I would use
some sort of water proof sealer such as clear silicone on the threads of the bolts as you re-attach it. Just dont be surprised if its rotted out.
Lets hope its not.

It's aftermarket and I've seen two or three of them. Quite nice addition if one don't have any spoiler. _________________ '83 924 2.6 16v Turbo, 470hp

Pefa really has some nice body kits and things. The interiors also look great.

I just bought one of these off ebay. It said it was in good shape, so we'll see what happens. Hopefully it will dress up the look of an old 924 pretty good. Too bad 77's didnt come stock with a spoiler. Oh well... hey I'll make sure to take you're advice about this one, Porscheaddiction.
I'll let ya know how it goes. _________________ 1977 Porsche 924 |
