Has anyone ever had the clutch to go out when the car is not in use? I parked my '77 924 with an electrical problem. Two weeks later, when I got around to fixing the wiring, the clutch was out! Feels like plenty of pedal pressure, the clutch arm is working, but it will not engage! Help!! |

Please describe the problem in more detail.
Are you saying it is slipping, or will it not disengage? _________________ White 87 924S "Ghost"

| It will not disengage at all....can't crank it in gear with the clutch mashed, can't shift into gear with the engine running.... |

Could the clutch disk have "frozen" itself to the flywheel? _________________ 1987 951 - M193 Version for Japan |

| That's what I'm thinking, but how can I "unfreeze" it without a major ordeal? any ideas? |

Get under the car, remove the inspection plate on the rear of the bell-housing and lightly tap the pressure plate and clutch disk with a rubber mallet. Might do the trick. _________________ 1987 951 - M193 Version for Japan |

I guess you could try wedging down the clutch pedal and leaving it for a while. If its not too badly stuck it may "pop" after a while. _________________ Pete

I've tapped on the pressure plate, and I now have the pedal wedged down....cross your fingers....
I have a new clutch and pressure plate, but really don't have the time to go into it right now... with gas prices the way they are, I really miss the 40mpg my 924 gets... |

I had the same thing happen when I didn't drive the car for about a year. A little judicious jostling with the starter (car in gear) and it finally popped free. YMMV. _________________ '80 924 n/a SOLD |

Try putting the car in high gear, then push the brake and clutch pedal hard and hold them down.
Then crank the starter. _________________ White 87 924S "Ghost"

| WHEEWWW! FINALLY!!! I tried all the above suggestions, then finally got angry and just started trying to jam it in high gear with the clutch down and the engine running, and it popped in after many profanities with interjected pleas to heaven. I probably wouldn't recommend the aforementioned procedure, especially the profanities!! |

I was getting close to that, about 38. But that was on 98ron leaded. Might lose a bit with the crappy fuel. Although don't they have lower ron in the states?
Boy am I glad my clutch didn't stick. What a palaver. _________________ 1978 924na |
