to do or not to do that is the question,
i have an 88 924s and the dash is starting to crack badly... i dont have the money or the skill to redo the dash, so should i let it go or just throw a dash cap on? any suggestions? are dash caps as bad as some people make them sound? ive seen concourse 924's with dash caps so it can't be that bad, can it? _________________ Proud owner of

Just get the plastic cap, not the carpet one, those are gross. I have a plastic one and I am fine with it, people who don't know the 924 (which is everyone) don't even notice. _________________ 1987 951 - M193 Version for Japan |

Kenodog's got one on his and it took me a while to notice that it was actually a dash cap! I thought he had perfect dash!
Once you look at it closely, you can it tell it doesn't fit perfectly. But it looks a whole lot better than a cracked dash. Especially if you take your time and get it right.
I'll put one on mine if I get the chance. _________________ '80 924 Turbo |

My 931 has one and the dash part fits perfectly but the cap for the instument panel is a little too wide. Got one for the 928 and it was just the opposite. Being too wide on the dash caused it to warp when it got warm. If you get one, recommend a test fitting before applying the cement.

Has anyone got a picture of a cap in place? My dash is cracked too and I have been wondering about these for a while. Also where can I source one from? Only seen them on eBay so far and not sure of the quality of those.
Thanks everyone. _________________ Pete

Here is a photo of my interior with a dash cap:
The dash cap fits perfectly and nobody notices that it is a cap. Please note that this is a Coverlay dash cover and I recommend one of these rather than one of the knock offs that I see on ebay all the time.
Please note that if your dash is badly cracked with high spots etc, you will need to do some prep work for any cover to fit properly. _________________ -Stu

Thanks Stu, that looks the business.
I was a bit wary of the eBay items as stuff bought there is invariably lower quality. Yours looks spot on in the picture. Just got to find somewhere that will ship to the UK now then. _________________ Pete

The cap is a good idea and looks much better than a dash full of cracks. Since removing the whole dash is so easy, you might want to think about taking it out and then fitting the cap. You'll get a better fit and it's easier to work on to snug it up tight. Plus, it'll be less prone to warping. My 944 one started to warp, so I took out the whole dash and redid it. Now it's fine. _________________ '88 944 Auto - may or may not resurrect |

hot damn!! I can't wait to get me a cap fitted...hopefully before the winter kicks in here in the UK - looks like its going to be a multi purchase of bits from the US of A as I can't find a quality source here in blighty.

I was up at the Festival Of Transport with the 924 Owners Club last weekend and a couple of the guys have got the cheap eBay caps on. I have always treated these with suspicion before, but have to admit that the quality was really fairly good. Good enough for me to accept, so I will be buying one myself before I'm too much older.
Of course if you want perfection, you may be better off with a Coverlay job. _________________ Pete

How much are the ebay ones? I got my coverlay for $80. I think that is pretty reasonable.

At current exchange rates the eBay ones are about the same price, around $80. The problem is finding someone to ship one to the UK. Even then, after shipping and import duty (if you are unlucky!) is added it will probably work out a fair bit more.
At the end of the day, my car is no minter so an eBay one is good enough for the me. Of course, as I said above, for those out there that want the extra quality go for a Coverlay! _________________ Pete

Oh, I didnt realize your from england.
Yeah, overseas shipping is a PITA. When I was a the Porsche dealership, I inquired about shipping eurobumpers to the US....It would cost like $500 for shipping, and that was just to portugal. what a joke.
