|
|
Hi all, I've just driven my shiny, new (to me) 1979 924 home. This afternoon I was driving in a car park whn i got my foot stuck under the clutch and pulled it back slightly, causing the cable to disconnect from the top of the pedal. After much mucking around I figured out what was wrong and reattached it, only to have it disconnect again a few minutes later, this time just from taking my foot off the clutch. I ended up having to drive home with pressure on the clutch to prevent it from happening again. When I got home I found a small black piece of rubber under the pedals. I was wondering whether this is something that usually holds the cable to the pedal, and if so whether I can get a new one. Any help appreciated.
P.S. the car is great to drive, very happy with my purchase I am. _________________ '68 VW bug

G'day, welcome to The 'Board!
Another Brisbanite! Man, we are taking over! There's a few members in Brisso...
Congrats on the purchase! They're great fun cars!
I can't help with your problem (many others will be able to) but I can recommend some parts places...
Firstly, the Porsche Centre in Brisbane, obviously. T&D Automotive Specialists in Bowen Hills, good blokes, really know their stuff, perhaps a little pricey (35 Allison Street, Bowen Hill QLD, Tel: 3852 1730). Also Performance 9 in Melbourne (I've bought stuff from them, prompt service, reasonable prices). And aPorschaPart (haven't dealt with them yet).
Good luck! _________________ '80 924 Turbo |

Sounds like the cable could be old and stretched. Was the spring on the clutch pedal in good condition? My guess is a stretched cable, luckily they are pretty cheap for the 924. _________________ 1987 951 - M193 Version for Japan |

Thanks for the help, I haven't checked again yet but I'm pretty sure there wasn't a spring so that might be the problem.
Actually, I have another question as well. I have a '79 5-speed but the shift pattern is normal, would this mean someone has put the later Audi gearbox in it? Thanks. _________________ '68 VW bug

As far as I know, all the Australian-delivered Turbo's had the "snailshell" gearbox (with 1st on the dog leg), but I'm not sure about NA's..?
I don't even think there's any way to check for sure... _________________ '80 924 Turbo |

If the paper sticker is still readable inside the boot, the transnmission type will be coded on that along with engine type chassis number, paint colour, options, etc.

Thanks for the help, I went to T&D the other day and found out it's a little rubber buffer that goes behind the pedal to prevent it from springing back too far. _________________ '68 VW bug
