|
Since last Thursday I've had some rather massive accident damage on the passengers side that looks like it's bent the A-pillar, and has rendered the car undriveable. I'm going to get a quote for fixing it but I'm already pretty much resigned to the fact that it'll be either unfixable or prohibitively expensive.
All this has got me thinking about what my options are. I know might sound stupid, but I was wondering whether it's possible to swap the 924 engine into a 944 chassis. There's a very straight looking 944 that's been gathering dust in the garage of my apartment block for about 6 months, making me think it might have had a terminal engine failure (timing belt). My car is mechanically absolutely fine apart from cosmetic damage and a gearbox that's been on the way out for months.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance _________________ '68 VW bug

Way different engine mounts and it all depends on how much mods you want to do.
Can be done but for the price get a 924 with a blown engine and swap. _________________ Porsche 924 1984 (UK import) NA

I think ozzie has it backwards. Usually people want a 944 engine in a 924. Anyway, You aughta just buy a decent running 944 with your money. Maybe you could take your 924 (if it's totalled) and part it out, to help fund a new car.

I am understanding that he wants to use his good motor somewhere. _________________ Porsche 924 1984 (UK import) NA

thanks for the help, I've decided that the 944 is out of the question. Also, while I'd love to take a step up in the world, I just don't have the money to afford a real 944 and it's interference motor. Or its $3000 windscreen. I just need to find myself a 924 with a good body and gearbox and a baaaad motor that needs replacing... how hard could that be? Wish me luck!
PS. Does anyone know how much I should be expecting to pay for such a specimen in Australia? _________________ '68 VW bug
