Car is a liitle rougher starting lately. Checked plugs and found no electrode showing on my Bosch Platinums. New plugs needed I think. How much does plug type matter? I'll be replacing cap and rotor along with plug wires next for a more complete tune up.

Thanks for the reply and the link. I had read several other conversations on the board about plugs but had not read the one at the link you sent. Checked the plugs in my 944 and they are Platinums as well. The plugs in the 44 look better than the ones in my 24. Both sets will get changed out quickly. Looking forward to a better cold idle. Lets hope that is the only issue.

The 924 will soon become my sons car. He graduates from college this spring and is in need of a decent car. He has been driving a 91 Dodge Shadow since high school and is looking for something a little better as he joins the working world. He gets a great deal on my car and that money lets me get the 944 in top shape. I'll get him hooked up with this forum as he takes on keeping his new car in good condition.

Thanks Again.

Lynn

WOW!... what a difference. Removed the platinums after work today put in $1.59 Bosch Super Plus regular plugs and fired her up. Car has sat for a day and a half while I decided what to do. Generally I would have a pretty rough idle for a bit. Even after it warmed up it never really smoothed out. Smooth idle right off the bat. Temp here is in the high 40's to low 50's so pretty cool. In the past I thought I needed new motor mounts. Wrong, just decent plugs. UNBELIEVABLE. Smooth idle, smoother acceleration. Best $7 I ever spent. Normally about now I would be offering you all a beer. Guess You will just have to put it on my tab.

944 gets the same treatment this coming weekend.

Thanks

Lynn

Checked my plugs in Whitey this evening - Bosch WR7DC - copper. So I have the right plugs, but the gap is set to 0.35. Do I need to narrow it down a bit?

The Lil' Red car has Bosch platinums with two sets of electrodes per plug - number is 4310 stamped on the plug. Guess I need to replace them. How do you measure the gap on these things?

BTW - I inherited a set of "feeler gauges" - it's a set of metals tabs bolted together like a collapsible fan - sizes range from 0.0015" to 0.025" labeled in decimal millimeters also - is this thing going to be useful?

Thx-
BC

My book said 28 thousandths, My platinums had issues with the center electrode in the middle of the plug. It was essentially not there.

I used a feeler guage that has metal strips of many sizes. I combined a 20 with an 8 and everything is fine. They are fairly inexpensive at almost any automotive store.

Nevermind - the Bosch Platinum 2's (2 electrodes) are not gap adjustable...

I put the copper plugs in Lil Red tonight and she seemed to run a little better also.

Duh - never thought about combining the feeler gauges to get the size I needed.
