Car was parked in the street and now the driver side front bumper is pushed way in and the opposite side is a little forward. No body damage and light still works fine.
Before I pull the bumper and fix this problem, is it normal for the Impact absorber to stay compressed? Could it spring back all of a sudden causing injury if my hands are in there pulling parts off?
no, they did not leave a note with their insurance info on it |

Now say thanks to those ugly shock absorber bumpers. If you had a fiberglass nose, it would be a splintery crunch. I think you need a new shock. It should have sprung back. Try unbolting the bumper (2 bolts one through each shock) and look to see if the subframe that the shock is mounted in has been pushed back or wrinkled any. If it is all straight like the other side, then you can give a sigh of relief. Check for leaking oil from the shock while you are in there. Yes the shock could pop back. You might try sticking a large screwdriver or small prybar in the hole of the end of the shock and try to pull it out with a slight twisting motion. I dont know if it would pop out fast enough to cause you injury, but I would definately watch out and be careful! Wear gloves and dont put your body where it would be in the way of the shock coming out. _________________ 87 924s

I got hit on the rear passenger corner at about a 15mph speed differential and at a 20 degree angle or so. My bumper stuck in on one side. I simply grabbed it from the bottom and pulled it out. I assumed it was stuck because of the angle of impact.
When I pulled it back out, it didn't pop out suddenly. It felt dampened. I then removed the bumper and dampers and looked for leaks and wrinkles. I didn't see any so I put it back together.
Should I have replaced the dampers? Since they felt like they were dampened when returning to the original position, I assumed they weren't just a "one time use". _________________ '88 924S 3L 6sp RedRat

That was so simple to repair I feel bad about waiting so long. One bolt each side, unplug lamps, lift off bumper, two bolts and shock comes right out. |
