I have a 1987 924S with a snapped off antenna. I do not know if it was manual or not but need to replace it. I don't want a roof mount which are cool, just a simple replacement so I can hear the radio. A short generic style would be perfect.
Do I have to remove the wheel well cover or go from the kick panel or what?
I have searched but have not found how to get to the antenna wiring.
thanks |

My antenna had a 3 pin plug behind the side kick panel on the RHS for the electric aerial and it was just a matter of running the shielded cable to the head unit. _________________ Porsche 924 1984 (UK import) NA

I picked up a universal but that is not the correct way to do it. Where is the switch for the antenna or is it an automatic when you start the car?
I found my old antenna that had fallen down in the hole and it had a yellow two prong fork looking thing on it for what it's worth.
They sell one on Pelican and I wonder if that would work for my '87 |

| Look on eBay. There are OEM Hirschmann antennas on there frequently (power or manual). |

my new antenna didnt connect to the 3 pin plug so I had to solder them together.
It worked off the stereo and only goes up when switched on. _________________ Porsche 924 1984 (UK import) NA

The eBay antennas look good. Now if I can figure out which one I have and how to get to/route the cable I'll be set. |

I got one of these and it fit pretty good. I can not find where the old cable routes through though. Too bad I can't some how spice the new cable to the old. I am afraid to rip too much apart or I'll be fixing something else.
I tried pushing and pulling the old cable and it will not budge. (insert hair pulling icon here) |

It should come through the side somewhere - behind the carpet, no? I don't remember exactly where, but look in that area and maybe further forward and up next to and beyond the fuse-relay panel. _________________ "..it's made in Germany. You know the Germans always make good stuff."

I ran out of light last evening but will give it another go this afternoon. Although the directions are from the fatherland the little diagram shows the plug going through the wall and then down. It looks like they are saying NOT to go straight/ horizontal to the ground. If this fails I have a German friend and will get the darn instructions briefly translated.
Guess I am going to have to dig a little deeper under the carpet to see if I can find it.
Also I am assuming the cable plugs directly into the radio. Does this sound right? |

I apologize for raising this thread from the dead, but I'm in a need of a new antenna. I'd like it to be an original so I was wondering if this Hirschmann antennas are really OEM or just an aftermarket replacement.
My car already came with some crapy replacement one so I've never seen "the real deal"
Does anyone know if Hirschmann is OEM or not?
Thank you!

Ya, that's my understaning - that Hirschmann is the OE antenna. I installed one in about '92 when my 931 was new (to me). Never had a problem with it, it still works like new, and the cars' been parked out on the driveway for the past 16 years. -And uncovered for 99.9% of that time. _________________ "..it's made in Germany. Vielen Dank!
I was surprised how cheap it was, and I've read somewhere that it's a bit longer compared to ones that came with the car.
I guess I'll get me one now
Cheers! _________________ 1984 924 2.0 NA |

how do you physically remove the antenna from the front fender?
I see a canister-type thing behind the front wheels.
I am hesitant to remove anything unless I have to, so please a little advice =) _________________ 1987 Porsche 924S Black/Black. 5-spd.

That's the charcoal canister for the evaporative emissions system. Remove it for access to the antenna - may have to disconnect a hose or two to it in the engine compartment, I don't remember exactly.. Should be a screw or two holding it also. Just look, see, and whatever's required should become obvious. _________________ "..it's made in Germany. You know the Germans always make good stuff."
