Last night I had a friend stop by, and we aired up the tires & fired up the 924! After tooling around for a couple of months in the 944 I thought the 924 would now be boring, boy was I wrong about that. The 944 sounds like a truck, and it's very quiet at low revs, though there's definitely a race note at about 4K which is very cool. The 924 on the other hand, sounds like a snarling World War II fighter with that Audi Rarrr. Just so F'ing viceral. And I didn't remember it being able to chirp the tires in 2nd. So we raced around the neighborhood a bit after clearing a little problem with the clutch being stuck after sitting around for half a year.
All systems are apparently GO on this thing, except of course all the cold-start equipment is junk, but that's OK. The latest major problem is actually with the 944 -- the spedometer cable was broken at the wheel. This morning we pulled it all apart & attempted to replace it with an original OEM, but there were eh, difficulties connecting the speedo guage to the cable & having it set & mount correctly. I guess you've got to turn it 90 degrees when installing it? Anyway, my friend helped me kink the cable at the guage and so when I finally got it mounted correctly & hooked up to the wheel it lasted about 3 miles before breaking at the guage end. Damn!!
Overall, I think that the 924 is not to be replaced by the 944. There's just so much the 924 has that the 944 doesn't have, or perhaps rather the other way round. Everything the 944 has but doesn't need, the 924 doesn't have. It's simple, viceral sports-car fun at its best.

Yeah, the '24's definitely just more bare-bones, direct engagement with the road!

Finally got my turbo out on track for some semi-hard laps today; crap tires (all-season, I'm used to new Hoosiers!) and so the brakes were overworked, but boy was it fun to get on boost!!! Sure wish my racecar had that...

I fiddled with the idle a bit and moved the switch for the fog lamps into a permanent spot to the left of the cigarette lighter, then moved my A/F mix gauge to behind that speaker panel in the center of the dash. The light is barely visible in daytime (can't see it in the daytime even in front of the panel) and probably cool looking at night.

Then I went for a drive too. Brakes are squeaking but I tried not to use them much. Sunshine was great, sunroof, baseball cap, cold soda...twisties...

Just came back from a drive. Gave the 924 its annual wash then went for a cruise. Gorgeous here today, must be close to 20c, sunny, had the windows down and the roof off. Love the way my car sounds between 4000 and 5500, pure heaven.

Boo - Yah! New cookie cutter spare (for 944) came this weekend, new speedo cable (for 944) was destroyed with the help from a friend of mine, but the 924 made all the pain go away, haha. Seriously, I've learned a hell of a lot from this forum and working on my car and I'm grateful for that. All the little jobs restoring these can be learned on the 924, and I'd guess it's similar for 356 / 911 cars.
As for tires, those worn out Uniroyal 195 / 60 R15 Rallye GT tires on the 924 sure beat the hell out of the 205/60 R 15 new Potenzas on the 944, on dry pavement. I've got to be a fan of the 4-wheel disc brakes on the 944 tho.
The 924 just simply looks better and has more to offer in overall experience with a sports-car.

Had all four of the p-cars out this weekend...SH4RK is runnin' great and soundin' great even though the paint looks like crap!, SONIC06 has an annoying miss on 3 that I'm hoping a new dizzy cap and plug wire set will cure, the 941 ran really hot for some reason, so I've got to chase that down (maybe an air pocket or bad fan relay/fuse), and GEIST (the 924S) was strong as ever. April 01 thru October 31 is why we live in MI, boy the weather is beautiful this time of year!

I've driven it through whiteout conditions with so much snow on the ground my bumper was plowing..... I've had to pull it out of ditches were it slid off the road (pure ice) and ended up in a 11 foot snow drift. I enjoy driving it in wintertime. More than summertime typically. Last year's new years eve I was out tuning at 12:01am ringing in the new year zooming around a corner.
