|
|
| A neighbor of mine has an 1980 931 that has been sitting for a couple of years because it needs a fuel distributer. I know that they were pretty hard to come by years ago when I actually owned one, now I am wondering if they are actually available at all anymore. If I bought it, would I be able to get a working one someplace? Or is it pretty much a wait until one pops up on Ebay thing? It is a nice car and would not mind a project if I could be sure of finding a replacement fuel distributer for it, but I really wouldn't want it to just sit around rusting any more waiting for a part. Thanks in advance. |

I see them on here, ebay, and craigslist on occasion. However, there are plenty on here that are using stand alone fuel management, it is now a very viable option, and certainly cheaper than a new fuel dizzy even if you could find one. and with the amount of conversions happening, even if you dont want to do that, used ones come up more often from those who are converting.. _________________ Eric

| Well, I was initially looking just to get it running without having to go to a stand alone system, as that would take quite a bit of time and money to install I think. But, if for some reason I couldn't locate one I could always go with the stand alone route as a last resort to get it running. I think I will start a new thread if I buy it to see which system people are using now to do the conversion. |

$370 rebuilt here, but there's a >$250 core charge that you won't get back unless you have another used one to send back -

| Hmmm.... well at least I know they are still available if I went that route. Anybody that's done a conversion to EFI have a guess as to the total cost to do it? I know Megasquirt is a little cheaper then it was a few years ago, but have not looked into the TechII or others for comparison yet. |

Min: $10
Dan: $5000
Min: Shut up.
Dan: No, you shut up.

If it were me, and I had no CIS, and was shopping around, I'd EFI the sucker, and do the investment straight away. It's been sitting around, and essentially, if it sits like that, it's largely CIS based components you're going to be replacing along the way over the next two years anyway.
- CIS
- Probably the WUR
- Fuel filter
- Maybe a pump
- Murphy's Law related incidentals
Mine sat for a while so I've been there. If I knew there'd be this much to do, I would've done EFI instead. But alas, I'm stuck with the original CIS and making it work for me. _________________ 1980 924 turbo, MSD, Meth. Inj, otherwise stock. |

| Yep, you are right about replacing other CIS parts on a car that's been sittin a couple years. At any rate, it sounds like it's going to be doable either way at least, so I guess I should now see if I can pick it up for a decent price. |

heheh, yeah, tht Rasta likes to instigate alright...actually he hyperbolizes & discombobulates a bit...the actual conversation was more like this:
Dan: $1500
Min: $500
Dan: put up or shut up
Min: why should I?
so the range for MS seems to be somewhere between $500-$1500 depending on your tolerance for self-soldering and bits acquired from the scrapyard. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

This assertion is the most vomitously offensive affront to all that is right and proper that I have ever had the penultimate displeasure to have retched, writhed, and gagged through. Having my testicles wrapped around a red hot broadsword would be preferable to being exposed to such venomous obfuscations in the future. _________________ Toofah King Bad

I'd go with $1000 but it will cost more than that in CIS bits over the next 6 months.... _________________ 1994 Lotus Esprit S4 - Work in progress...

| $1000? I was thinking it would be at least $2000 after everything was said and done. What system is that cheap to put on? Or are you thinking used? In any event, I need to buy it first as it looks like a good project for me. |
