A 944 trans will improve your highway mileage.
My 931 gets 25 on the highway on a good day, my 924S slightly better. _________________ Toofah King Bad

I have noticed my mileage is related to the price of gas. At $4/gal it improves. Now that the corner Shell is $1.79/gal mileage has dropped.
If you want to improve your numbers a little, I use Lucas Upper Cyl Lubricant in the tank-2 or 3 oz every other tank or so. Benefits to mileage as well as my fuel pump sounds a little quieter and cleaner injectors. Also, tire pressure is 29 lb. front and 36 lb. rear.

My 924S gets 27-29 MPG
My 924 2.0L NA gets ~21 MPG (it has the Audi TB, so it's on WOT more frequently than a bone stock NA )
Haven't measured MPG in the S1 931 because the odo is still awaiting repair. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

Tire pressure can make a notable difference in MPG.
The other thing that just occurred to me is that you're on the west coast where some of those refueling locations might be *required* to blend at least 10% ethanol into conventional pump gas. If that were the case, given the 25% less fuel economy of ethanol vs. conventional gasoline, it could account for why your highway mileage is marginally lower than most of the numbers posted.
Just doing some quick math using some round numbers...
Using a 16 gallon tank of conventional gas with a baseline MPG of 30 MPG would yield a range of 480 miles.
That same tank of gas with 10% ethanol blend would only yield roughly 468 miles (at best), a difference of 12 miles, or 2.5%
30 MPG baseline minus 2.5% = 29.25 MPG
But that of course doesn't take into account the fact that the car is not setup to run on that mixture of fuel, so the effects on economy could be even greater. Factor in a few other variables like improper tire pressure, driving style, etc. and it's not hard to imagine how your economy would be less than optimum.
Don't know if my theory holds water, but it's food for thought. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

I used to get ~30mpg in my 924S. I got somewhere between 25-30mph in my 931 (GPS calculated as the odometer is broken). _________________ --Alex--

Food for thought...just make sure your odo gear isn't slipping. I discovered on my recent summer trip to 944 Fest that the 928 odometer, while it appears to be working correctly and doesn't jump or stop, was only recording about .6 miles for every actual mile traveled. Made my mileage numbers look like crap! _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

A couple of thoughts:
If you're getting .6 miles per mile driven, it sounds like someone slipped you a metric setup. A kilometer is about .6 miles.
Also,
Those of you living in Canada will calculate higher gas mileage. Unless things have changed in the past 20 years, Canada is using the Imperial gallon, which is about 25% larger than ours in the states. If you get 30mpg in the US, you should get 37.5 in Canada minus the mileage penalty when driving in cold weather.
If you get only 11mpg, it might be that you taking short trips in town, never actually getting the engine full warm. That will kill your mpg, and wear your drive train out far ahead of it's normal milieage limit.

It's the other way 'round...my odo is reporting .6 miles for every 1 mile driven...if it were a KM based odo, it would be the other way around, I'd be showing more "miles" than actually driven... _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |
