Anyone have any experience with Yokohama Advan A048 tires on light cars?

I'm thinking about getting a set for the Lotus which weighs about 650kg. I see that they are the OE tire for the Lotus Exige which may or may not mean anything.

The cheapest I can find are 205/60R13s on US Ebay which is on the limit for the 5.5J rims on the car. With the current airline discounting I could fly to LA and bring 4 tires back on the plane cheaper than I could buy them here. The Ponz just asked when I was coming to Florida so I might surprise him

I've read impressions of a Caterham 7 roadsport owner a while back. He's tried several tyre types and A048 proved to be the best. The only thing is that he runs 185s, not 205s. He's tried 205s but it made the car feel "overtyred" so he swiched back to 185s.
He uses the car both as an everyday driver and as a trackday car. The reason for choosing A048s is that they handle pretty well in wet in his opinion.
Hope this helps.

I don't know about Yokohama Advan A048 tyres specifically, but I did have Yokohama tyres (A008's? Can't recall exactly...) on my car when I first bought it. Although I never felt the tyres caused any handling/performance-type problems, I did notice that the replacement set of Falken tyres I bought were significantly quieter i.e. dramatically reduced road noise (yes, it was very, very noticeable). I cannot say whether noisiness is characteristic of all Yokohama tyres, just the type I had or specifically the set I had on my car. And if you don't have an immediate back-to-back comparison like I happened to have, then perhaps it wouldn't make any difference anyway (like, what you don't know can't hurt you). Just something I noticed.

They use that tire in the Spec BMW E36 class here in the states:

That might get you some direct input as some have moved the cars back and forth between classes and may run different tires.

Another bit of info for possible alternatives:

Over here the 048 are almost twice the price of the cheapest r-compund tyre, the r888. for the 205s i would go for at least 7" wide.

Thanks for the comments guys.

I had thought that 205s might be a bit too much so your comments Mahatma are very helpful. The 205/60R13 tyres on US ebay are only US$60 each plus US$15 US delivery. I'll ask the seller if he can get 185s.

Down here the A048s are an outrageous price. The UK price of around 65 pounds is cheap by comparison.

Yeah, with Delta hitting Sydney in July they're all dropping fares. Delta is advertising Sydney - LA return for AU$777 ex-tax which would be about the same as V Australia. Delta is sweetening the deal by heavily discounting connecting flights to other US cities.

How far are you from Orlando Vince?

My immediate priority is to get back over to NZ so I can get this car on a boat.
