Hi,

My name is Berk and I'm living in Turkey. I had a brother. He had a 1976 Porsche 924. It was in a bad condition but we loved it. I used to make him a surprise by cleaning and waxing his car. Its sound was so beautiful that you would want to listen to it all day long..
Than, he had to sell it for economical issues.. He bought the car for 9.000$ and sold it for just 3200$. (We have high prices on cars here.) The car wasn't starting when he sold it. And he bought a 1978 Mercedes 280S for 2000$.
But sadly, I've lost my brother in a tragic accident about a year ago. And now I am planning to buy Porsche back from the new owner. According to new owner, he fixed all the problems on the car. And now the seller wants about 9000$-9500$. I've been willing to buy the car. But last few days I've been looking for some specifications. Here is what I found;

Mercedes:
Horsepower 157.00 BHP (115.6 KW) @ 5400.00 RPM
Torque 181.00 Ft-Lbs (245.4 NM) @ 3800.00 RPM

Porsche
Power: 125 hp @ 5800 rpm
93 kW @ 5800 rpm
Torque: 122 lb. ft. @ 3500 rpm
166 Nm @ 3500 rpm

What I saw on that Porsche was pure power. But according to these specifications, 2000$ Mercedes beats the crap out of 9000$ Porsche?!

I kind of lost my enthusiasm.. But I think I still want that Porsche badly.. For my older brother..

What do you think guys?
What should I do?
Will Porsche and its power satisfy me if I buy and use it? (I've never used it!)

That looks like alot more than some customization. Somebody dropped some money on the body panels for that car. They shoulda dropped some cash on some wheel spacers because the rears sit way too far in with the 944 flares. Ive never really liked those aftermarket hatch kits either, but they do cost alot.

The 924 is slow. But I still love driving them. They got alot of personality and are just flat out fun to drive.

With just the information you've given, Id say $9,000 is still too high even if you do have high car prices over there. Thats a nice looking car and Im sure you would have a blast driving it and it would have alot of sentimental value to it, but you need to get that guy down on the price.

If the seller is aware of your circumstances then he may be trying to take you for a ride on the price...

As mentioned, the performance of a stock 924 won't blow you away - but they are fun to drive!

Ide pay every last cent i had to buy it back, if it had as much sentimental value to you as you say bit does...whats $9000 when everytime you drive it your driving with your brother.

Forget performance we dont buy these cars for torque or hp specs...but in saying that another 3 plus grand will have you crapping all over that mercedes and most cars that come by....search turbo upgrade...which could put you in the realms of 200+HP 0-100 in under 6 seconds (search raceboy)

Bodywise that car looks amazing..certainly some money has been spent on the bodywork

The outside of the car looks great does it have a good interior do all the electricals work. No major oil leaks and you don't want to take more than three people Driver included. Go for it.

I would say, if you could comfortably afford the price, make him a reasonable offer(~$7500?) and see what he says. There's a lot of sentimental value with it, but are you looking for a keep-sake, or a car to enjoy and have fun with, or both(v8 swap?).

The merc is 2 seconds slower to 100km/h and lacks 14km/h in top speed compared to the 924

The 924 is not a rocket, but they are really fun to drive. Try to get some of the price and then buy it, i think it will be worth it just for the sentimental value..
