|
|
I was under the impression that the badge panels on the 924S and 944 were bolted in. On the 1985.5 944 I have, that is definitely not the case, it is spot-welded on like the early 924.
The mystery is the 87 924S. The badge panel has screws along the top where the hood latch is, and two small studs with 8mm nuts at each corner of the two headlight buckets. I've removed all of these, but the panel seems to be either welded or glued in place. I'm having trouble seeing if there are spot welds along the lower, underside of the panel...I've removed the bumper, but I can't tell if it's spot welded there or if there's just some panel glue that's preventing me from removing it.
Any suggestions for a quick, clean removal? I do NOT want to cut up this chassis. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

I was looking at this yesterday and this morning thinking about the same thing. I have a new emblem to put on and can't seem to get the header panel off my 87 924s too, I'll look at it more today and see if I find anything. _________________ White 1987 Porsche 924S manual |

Dan, I think by the time they introduced the 924S (at least here in the ole' country) ALL 924S/44 models were supplied with a bolt-on removable front panel.
There's 2 snekky screws on the inner side of the headlights. pop them up first for a visual.... |

I think I found them...I had about 2 seconds over lunch break, and it feels like there is a 10mm nut or bolt right down in the corner where the extreme bottom end of the header panel attaches to the front fender. On the earlier models, there's just a pin there. Later this afternoon, I'll have a go at it. Thanks! _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

Alright, I have the 4 screws off on the top, I popped the lights up and under the rubber there is 2 nuts for each light. They don't have to come off, just loosened, but I took them out anyways. And then there is 2 10mm screws that goes in the side fender (one on each side) under the pop up light. I had a hard time getting these out, my socket head was too big, even the smallest socket I had was too big. After 6 screws, 4 nuts and over an hour of time, it won't come out. It seems like there is something else holding it in place. I'll look around the board to find a post, I thought I saw a "how to" about this somewhere... _________________ White 1987 Porsche 924S manual |

Interesting. When I was playing around with it the other night, it sure seemed like the surface just above the bumper in the direct center is somehow sealed or glued or maybe even welded. We'll see what happens when I get home, I'll have the heat gun handy in case there is some seam sealer or glue holding up the works. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

Yeah, your right Dan, I took my bumper off and it does seem like it's glued or spot welded. Porsche sure did a good job securing this panel down. lol I'll work on it later and see what I can do too. _________________ White 1987 Porsche 924S manual |

OK, here's the dealio:- Four 10mm hex screws across the top, where the leading edge of the hood closes
- Two 8mm hex nuts in each corner of each headlight bucket (total of four)
- Two 10mm hex screws in each outside corner of the headlight bucket, under the lip, connecting the badge panel to the corner of the fender
- And the clincher: two phillips head screws that attach a small baffle on the inside of the header panel to the center section sheet metal behind the radiator, one on each side, accessed by putting the head light in the full up position, and then using a long phillips screw driver.
Once these are all out, it slides straight forward. No glue, no welds.

I knew you were in S.A., but that doesn't necessarily mean the car started its life there So, technically, you have a 932. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |
