I am sorry to see that, I am sad about the car but happy you did not get hurt...
I assume it was electrical and not petrol related? If electrical is the core part of the engine still functional? _________________ Kroggers

I always have an extinguisher in my car and I've learned not to pop the hood if there's a fire.... you're providing extra oxigen that way.
still, sad pictures...but it could be worse. _________________ "Rule: Turbo's make torque, and torque makes fun." (C. Bell)

My guess is the starter wiring harness. Known issue... _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

Well, had left the shopping centre carpark. Waiting at give way sign to turn onto the main road, accelerated then BANG. Big puff of smoke, no electrics, a few choice words and coasted to stop on side of road.
grabbed all my stuff out of the car and called the fire truck. Very frustrating standing there with your car on fire & being able to see the fire station & wondering "when's the door gonna open?" & hurry up!!!
My wife could be a bit more supportive about it - well its her money going up in smoke too...
Oh, and Joe Public couldn't have been more helpful either... "hey, your car's on fire" doesn't help _________________ Dreams of Porsche ownership ended in flames |

Yep - another from Brisvegas
Had the car since Feb this year. Poured in heaps of hours & cash to make it run almost as good as it looks. This is the thanks I get from her!
Still a mystery as to the cause. I've had the car towed to insurer & fingers & toes & eyes crossed they will cover it - it was on fire dammit.
Will keep posted on developments - they said 2 days to assess and get back to me so either late Tuesday or Wednesday for some progress. _________________ Dreams of Porsche ownership ended in flames |

Well its a write-off. Too much damage to engine, paint, & wiring harness to justify insurance repair. And they're only giving me $5300 for the car - which i can buy back for $2k - bunch of a$$holes
I hate the economics of last 7 months but here u go:
Purchase $6500
Rego & Insur $1300
Parts $1500
Labour $ free (but heaps of my time)
Tools $1500
Other repairs $400
Insurance Excess $500
Total invested: $11700
Net returned: $5300
Loss: $6400
What a hard lesson to learn...
what a setup... i can't justify buying out and doing it up again. Aaarrgh my dream of Porsche ownership... ending in a ball of flames (at least it's one of the better ways to go) _________________ Dreams of Porsche ownership ended in flames |

That sucks :'(
Not sure if the situation is the same for you, but here in the states, the first offer from the ins co is not the one you take. Don't want to give advice, but you might want to negotiate a bit, especially if you can document some of those expenditures you mention above. Also, reach out to Porsche. It might be too late but if they can give you a value..., you might be in a better bargaining position.
Good luck with it. |

Had a similliar thing happen with my 944, got paid out, brought back the wreck for $4500 or something then fixed it for $1300. Its amazing what you can do when your not paying $120/hr and using all new Porsche parts. i.e. one wire is burnt in the harness, dont repair the harness buy a new one. I know thats extreme but thats the mentality of insurance companies when it comes to cars like Porsches. The other thing to consider from the insurance companies point of view is stuff like when the repairer gets it running you could claim that stacks of other stuff is wrong with it now and theres very little they can do to prove otherwise.
My advice is sleap on it, get some quotes from independant repaires etc then make a decision.
If you dont want to buy it back, and mods you have done/spare parts that arn't listed on the policy can be retreived by you.
So sorry man, I know just how heart breaking this stuff is! Go to the pub tonight!
