I thought that after having asked so many questions I should post some results on my installation. Whilst not completed, the main part of the work is now done!

I thought I would start with the new rims The car is back on the ground, and the body work is starting to take shape. Along with the upgrade to 944 suspension components, I was in need of some nice new 5-bolt pattern rims. I searched high and low to find some nice good condition rims that i thought would look good with the CGT conversion, when these turned up locally at a very good price.

They are 7.5x17 et53 from a Cayenne, and I think fit the CGT look rather nicely. They will require some spacers to look perfect, but that will come at a later date of this project...

As for the installation of the rear CGT arches, which has taken me rather a long time. I am undertaking all this work outside, so time has been reduced by the unpredictable Swedish weather and other work and family commitments.

My initial approach was to do the installation as documented by Hugo Jacobs in this rather good "How-to" document. But as you can see from the following pictures I got rather far down this approach when I decided to change direction and make the installation a lot more complicated.

The justification for cutting half the side of the car out was based on a number of points. Firstly, as I started to do the work I was finding a lot of rust damage that I wanted to cut out and replace with fresh metal. Secondly, there were a number of small issues I was finding with the approach that Hugo had taken. The end result would create a unreachable void between the new arch and the old existing exterior of the car. I was concerned with all the cutting, welding and banging that I would in the end create a good cavity for rust to develop which I would never see until it was really bad. Additionally, Hugo's instructions calls for you to hammer the car to half sink the edge of the new arches into the body - I just did not like this idea!?!

The following pictures gives a visual story on how I did the installation in the end...

Nice installation!

Do your rear flares have a lip on the outside or does it fold over onto the inside?
