|
|
Hi,
I would like to ask for advice in seting suspenssion.
I have done some mods, but would like to get some advice/critics.
what my car has:
Rear:
25,5mm T-bars
M030 Koni with helper spring from 968
20mm stab
225/50/16"
Front:
28N/mm - I think it is around 175 lbs/inch from 968 M030
M030 Koni from 968
30mm stab
205/55/16"
Feeling is that rear is stiff (by my taste) and front is softer (175 vs. 245 lbs/inch). And car is oversteering.
I was thinking of using 2,5"/60mm front racing spring from H&R 250lbs/inch.
What do you Guys think about set-up?What should I change to get more stable characteristic? _________________ Browar

It sounds like you're going in the right direction with the stiffer front springs. Or you could reduce oversteer by softening the rear, possibly by removing the helper springs.
It depends alot on where you'll be driving as well. I have a similar setup on my car, without the helpers and a slightly smaller (27mm) front bar, and to me it's just right on the street. With anything stiffer, I feel like I'd be losing traction on anything but the smoothest roads. If you spend alot of time on the track, or if the roads near you are in much better shape than they are around here, by all means go stiffer up front. _________________ Dan.

Thank You for input. I use my car as weekend transport - I commute by public transport due to heavy traffic. During non-winter time I try to spend as much time together with other Porsches on meetong etc. but only onece a year there is track event. All other are somthing like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MYI8Ul4_Yp0 .
Car is really oversteering on lift-off throtle etc. Also I am planning on using semi-slicks like Toyo R888 (very popular in Poland due to cost effectivness). Now car is using Good&Year Eagle F1 tires.
Hope to change springs during winter-spring time - I will post my experience with changing springs to stiffer ones. _________________ Browar

hello guys. I am on the same ship on this subject.
I have just bought a 924S for track days. It has Koni yellows all around, and runs on 16" 951 Tele dials (205/225 AVON ZZ1)
I am thinking on running some R888s on 15" wheels. I also have a set of 951S fr and re anti roll bars, which I am thinking of installing. Are these gonna make the car too stiff for track days ? |

Hey Browar , did the m030 just bolt into your S or did you have to make any changes or modifications to fit them? _________________ White 1987 Porsche 924S manual |

It wasn`t problem with rear one. At front there is problem with size of stabilizer end. Sway-bars 20-24mm have the same end size -> it fits to standard sway-bar mounting at lower a-arm. Sway-bar 25.5-30 are thicker. I followed one route. I just squized larger bar(larger end) to used-up standard mounting. It was terrible and at the moment old rubber is cracking. I have to find stabilizer rubber mount for Golf I (Rabbit in US?) for modiefied versions (18mm end bar). I hope it is clear. _________________ Browar

Hi,
Can anybody confirm informations?
What is wheel rate for McP strut in (924-944) 275 and 250 lbs/inch springs?
From my informations 25,5mm T-bars with helpers in 968 M030 have 245 lbs/inch.
What would be best match in front? 250 or 275 lbs/inch? _________________ Browar

Motion ratio at the front is about 0.9, that meens 275x(0.9)^2=~222 , 250x0.9^2=~202.
If I were you I think i would get the 275, I have 250s on mine and they are way too soft (together with 28mm weltmeister adjustable anti roll bar). Also dont forget to take a look at the camber settings, they affect grip and thus balance alot. I would get adjustable anti roll bars if I were you (at least at one end), the best thing you can have on a performance setup!
I have 28mms at the rear (22mm adjustable ARB), my plan is to go up to about 60N/mm (300lbs/inch in stone age units ) at the front, even though my rear also is about 43N/mm like yours its hard to compare since i have agressive camber angles and adjustable ARBs..
I run on 205/50 15" toyo r888. These tyres has risen very much in prise this winter, over 30%, what do they cost in poland ? camskill.co.uk used to be very cheap, but not any more. _________________ 1980 924 Turbo

The price of R888 in Poland has risen also very much -> that is way I had to skip it at the moment. for 205/55 and 225/50 in 16" I have to pay approx 550 EUR(set). _________________ Browar

Its crap, have you looked at the v70s, they are now the cheapest R-compound tyres. Check camskill.co.uk, they are cheaper than the toyos, although they are nice on dry the wet grips is said to be far worse than the r888s which actually are pretty good. _________________ 1980 924 Turbo

Would You prefer Michelin Pilot Sport Cup? Woul it be better than Toyo R888? Lets say cost is the same. _________________ Browar
