I've sent a mail to a well respected engine builder here in the UK http://www.ricwood.com/ and asked him what he thinks is possible. He's 'the man' when it comes to making the most out of what you've got!!

In the mean time I found another couple of pictures you might be interested in. The first is at Brands hatch but the more interesting one taken at Cadwell is of all the cars on the grid over 30 924 race cars that day I think. My first race at Castle Combe had 39 924 racers on the grid!!

I'll let you know what Rik thinks is possible when I hear back.

Steve

I have an n/a project coming online in a month or so that I have high hopes for. I don't want to tip my hand on the build sheet but let's say there were some pretty extensive mods being done as part of the build. I would like to get it all running and dynoed before I say too much but stay tuned...

It seems like everytime a thread gets good it goes cold..... there are so many posts that end with "I will post more soon" and then they die! Emoore I would love to see what you did with your build.

I think the answer with the NA car is to do the expected stuff, ie sort the flow across the head, yes good old inlet and exhaust, big valves etc and then make the internals as light as possible (light rods, pistons, valves and buckets) and increase the available revs. Power is work and time after all.

The other thing is to make it easy to drive and that does not mean stripping all the weight out, or at least it means being smart about it.

The 924 handles as well as it does because of its great weight distribution, strip out too much over the rear wheels and you will find it still handles pretty well in the corners but traction out of them will be a real issue and in the wet a nightmare. Just my thoughts.
Cheers
Simon

Simon's comments bring to mind also... be careful about planning on high revs. We've found - the hard way - that the lifter buckets are a weak point, at least in stock form. I don't think they're good for more than 7000rpm, and we normally limit our shifting to 6000 on our racecar for longevity! Stock ones crack at the valve adjuster holes.

Otherwise you'll want to talk to Dan about his solid lifter project...

Yeah, bigger cam, stiffer springs (as with the big valve head) and the Sten Parner solid lifters should help raise the RPM limit a little bit, but I don't want to be the guinea pig to find out how high! FWIW, I have a small shipment of the Sten Parner lifters on the way, 2 of 5 sets are already spoken for...

I read a google translated article about this guy running a n/a in eiffel rennen 300km. Placed pretty good i must say:

http://www.motor-klassik.de/rennsport/eifelrennen-im-porsche-924-nach-hausfrauenart-2985471.html

Really fun to see the last years results, several 924s, both n/a turbo and GTS according to the results list. Really good results to. A really tough event for historic racing cars. I think he says 155hp with webers, head port and cam, tuned for endurance racing.

Google translate it and read yourself !

That article is a hoot, especially with the strange translation.

My favorite line:

Quote:
Continue to 6500 as a spin is no point in doubt or fray, but the Porsche 924 engine has only about 7,000 in the period of self-destruction.

"...in the period of self-destruction".

hehehehe

I think we want to stay out of the period of self-destruction.

Dan is putting together the big valve kit with the stiffer springs and solid lifters for me. I also am going to use a set of Diamond pistons with 10.5:1 compression. I am also going to put in a scrapper. What else do you guys think I should do?
