I have a 5 speed Audi box that is leaking from the very rear of the unit. I got a new seal from EBS and have a question about it. I'm good with how to get the old one out (thanks Vaughan) but when the new one goes back in, does it pop back in dry or should I put some RTV on it first? _________________ Michael

Ok well I'll answer my own question for you all in case anyone has the same problem. The seal on the end of my tranny was leaking gear oil and needed replacing. Unfortunately the end of the tranny only had about 1" of clearance to the spare tire well.. After talking to Vaughan, he told me to basically beat/pry the wheel well away from the tranny and get enough space (about 2 more inches) and then drive a punch or screwdriver through it and then pry it out. It actually comes out vey easily. I got the new seal from EBS for $6 and went to work. The seal itself is a round disc shaped thing and is only about 1/2" thick and maybe 3" in diameter. It only ended up taking about 30 minutes to do the job and most of the time was spent on pumping in new gear oil and cleaning up my mess I made on the girlfriend's garage floor .
Anyways, if your's is leaking at all, it's a very easy job. _________________ Michael
