Well here we go, I just purchased a 1980 924 turbo. Found it on Craigs List, it was part of an estate sale and has been sitting in a barn for the last 10 years. It has 86000 miles on it , very minor rust, no body damage, was told it was running when parked. This car was purchased as a project car for my son and I to work on as his first car. He has 2 years till he can drive. My goal is to teach him auto mechanics and allow him to put some sweat equity into it, so he will value and care for it more.
With that, I will be visiting this site very offen, and looking for advice on how we should proceed. Don't know if we should keep it original or go with the wide body look.
A little about myself, I'm a Radiographer / Inspector in Prudhoe Bay Alaska. and live NW of Portland OR. and work on a 3 week rotation. So will have plenty of time to put into this project. Looking forward to hearing from the group on the best ways to test the engine and other systems that have not been used for 10 years.

This was stickied in the 931 tech section for a reason, it will be indefinitely useful to you through the begining stages of ownership.

Next buy yourself a Haynes manual and http://www.amazon.com/Bosch-Fuel-Injection-Engine-Management/dp/0837603005/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1289717372&sr=8-1 this.

Welcome to the Board and to 924 ownership.

Green tartan interior, you don't see that on a Civic.

931 has an interference motor so changing the cam belt should be the first thing on your list. It's pretty easy and cheap. If the belt breaks, the valves will contact the piston and bend the valves.

I would change the belt before anyone turns the key.

Many thanks for the advice, have already purchased Haynes, and Bosch injector manuals. Looking forward to getting started as soon as I get off this frozen oil field. Just had 2 days of white out conditions, and sub zero temps. Not even winter yet !!!

Whats a fuel injector manual about. Ten yrs ia a long time.
Might want toreplace the vacume lines. Among other things
Hopefully youll get fuel pressure, could be a stuck plunger in the fuel distributor. New plugs and cap, rotor, belts, oil, fuel, maybe itll start.
Should anyway keep us posted.

Actually, I thought all 944's were interference. But I wouldn't entirely count myself as the 944 expert...

I read somwhere on peilcan that the 951 was a non interferance engine, which actually makes them sound more daily driveable;as the only reason i dont want one is because i dont want to break a timing belt.

No checker Board seats, Black Leather seats, still in fair shape, need cleaning and softening, carpet very faded, needs replacement, cracked dash, needs replaced or recovered, leather wraped steering wheel ( leather in sad shape ). gonna start with mechanicals first. Belts, hoses, fluids, cap, rotor, wires, drain and flush fuel system, then try and fire it up to see what I got to work with. Wish us luck, should be a fun project for my son and I to work on.
