So went to fill up and got back to the car and saw water coming from the waterpump. My mechanic say its a seal that blew. What will happen if i use putty to seal the hole off from where its leaking?. How far can i drive with that?

The 'I just blew a seal' joke has wandered, unbidden, into my head...

Theoretically, you can drive until the WP bearings seize solid as long as you keep your coolant topped up, watch your temp gauge like a hawk and are prepared to be stranded at some point. At that point you'll be fixing more than just the WP, I'd think.

So yes, you can get by for a week or two. Just beware.

My $.02 after driving a 944 with a bad WP weep for, like, a month (when I was younger and foolisher).

might want to wiggle the water pump pully to verify it has play. There's a hose that sits at the bottom of it that can leak from the same area. It would probably be noisy when running if it's bad, wouldn't need a mechanic to tell you...

water pump kits are cheap on Dans site. I bought mine there. It looks fairly easy to replace to since its on the front of the engine (havent installed mine on my rebuilt engine yet)

I would replace it as soon as possible as overheating can be expensive.
