I can't get anywhere! Days and days of trying to get the piece of shit oil filter off and it hasn't budged. I want to turn the car over and take an axe to it!!!
I have tried everything from pliers, screwdriver impact, oil filter wrench, the belt trick, the swivel oil filter grasping tool, hammer, fist, and plenty of PB blaster and such.
I need to get to one of the bolts to remove the Alternator, but I cannot get to it without removing the oil filter, which now has a hole in it, and it has had so much force and pressure turning that it literally dents every time I put too much pressure on it. _________________ 1979 Porsche 924- Snailshell

Get a long bladed screwdriver and put it all the way thru the filter.
grab the handle and twist the filter off.. _________________ 1979 porsche 924 Na

I can't use the screwdriver anymore. Like I said, the filter has had tons of pressure on it, and it's just denting in. I have a hole through the filter, but if I try and twist it with a screwdriver, it's going to tear at the filter and rip in two like a pop can. _________________ 1979 Porsche 924- Snailshell

| At this point, you have tried everything else, maybe it would not be a bad thing if you tore off the outer tin can so that you can get to the mounting plate of the oil filter. If you have an old filter around. tear it open first and see if that might help you. |

I'll give it some more tries tomorrow. Between this and stuck bolts and screws, I can't seem to get anywhere at all. Ugh. _________________ 1979 Porsche 924- Snailshell

| Yeah, I'd be at the rip-tear-shred phase at this point. Probably not going to damage the threads, but you'll just destroy the filter housing, which I think is probably what you want. Once you break the seal, it'll come off. |

Most filters have a set of holes around the top.
If you have a set of long nose angled pliers around, you might be able to get the nose of the pliers into the holes and get enough leverage to get the mounting plate off.
Hope this helps.
Good luck! |

I've on some occasions had to use a screwdriver and hammer to start that plate turning, after ripping the rest of the filter out of the way.
That's why I always pre-lube the filter threads and seal now, so the oil filter is less likely to jam on. _________________ Vaughan Scott

Did you turn it the other way to help crack the seal first ?
Try spraying WD40 on and let it soak overnight.
Whats the brick trick , is that the same as when you want to loosen a screw you rap it on the screw head first with a hammer ?

Can you fit any kind of oil filter wrench onto it? I have 3 kinds I use in my shop (the socket, the band, and the chain wrench) _________________ proud owner of a 1979 924 Sebring Edition with a 931 trans that looks horrible but somehow runs... |

As above - cut filter body off, leaving mounting flange. Get a hammer and big screwdriver. Notch the filter flange and drive it counterclockwise with the hammer & screwdriver.
