Had her out this past weekend at a track day. Overall she did just fine, other than not having the power that I am accustomed to with my 951.
Here are some pics:
We added an extra set of front lights to help with the night driving portion of the race. We also created a 28-step procedure for a pit stop with refueling and driver change; this should be interesting for us to practice before the race.
Our spares assortment is nearing completion as well, and towing rig arrangements are almost done. Less than 2 weeks to the race now _________________ 1987 924S SPEC car

Nice job!
car's lookin good
You mind fwding your checklist on pit stops? We're gearing up for our 24 hours (this one's a true 24 hours) in Reno next month and would love to hear of your experiences with Chumpcar.
Good luck on your event!

She looks great KD ! Just remember the race isn't won in the first couple hours. Baby her and let the other teams kill their cars early. It makes for a lot less passing _________________ Matt

I am trying to get the other team members aligned with the philosophy that the clutch WILL DIE if we aren't very careful with it. Short shifting, not downshifting, etc. are going to have to be strategies to help with keeping her on the track and out of the pits.
Race is this weekend . We are towing out Thursday evening and running a Test and Tune on Friday. This will help with practicing pit stops and getting the drivers comfortable getting in and out of the car.
Sounds like there will be 19 teams at the race, which should be a good time, although a little bit on the low side compared to what the track could support.
The actual race starts at 11AM Saturday and ends at 1PM Sunday, with 2 1-hour breaks around dusk and dawn to allow for lighting changes.
We don't have an official videographer for this, so it's hard to say how much of the event we are going to be able to capture.
Wish us luck!

Just posted the update from the race, at the link John_AZ posted above. It took a good 2 days to recover from this, as we had a 7 hour tow back home which we did right after the race.

It was great fun - we are trying to determine what is next on our plate. As one of the team members mentioned "That was the gnarliest night of my life!" Maybe a couple more normal races are in our future, but for now we are going to take a break from this for a bit.
The car needs a new clutch installed, the shift lever fixed, water pump replaced and the front valance repaired properly. Other than those items, and some new tires, it is pretty much good to go for its next adventure!
Cheers, Keith _________________ 1987 924S SPEC car

Great result Keith, especially for a first crapcan race!
A couple of questions to help guide others LeMonizing a 924 (me).
How did the stock disc/drum brakes work out? What linings were used frt & rear?
What tire/wheel was used? opinions?
How did the radio system and homemade power supply work out?
Thanks! |
