Alright, so I keep getting mixed answers. I either get "In my opinion" or "I think" but no one has thus far given me any solid numbers of "That is normal" or "no that is not normal" but one person.
On my 911 it's been awfully cold lately, below freezing most the time I drive it in the mornings. I've been using /about/ in the range of roughly 1/2 qt of oil every 400 miles (1qt every 800, however you wanna put it) sometimes less, sometimes more. Roughly in that ballpark.
during winter months, because the engine takes so damn long to warm up, IS THAT NORMAL?
If it does not variate during the season, then, is that normal consumption at all?
400 miles ago it was at half. Checked it again, added 1/4 a quart today 200 miles later. So it's somewhat consistent. Although the idle isn't always the same, so sometimes checking readings is a bit of a pain in the ass.
Anyway.... figured I'd see what is normal, what isn't.
Others have told me "oh that's too much" others have told me "no you're fine, drive on."
If it comes to the point of rebuilding, what all needs done? The engine runs soundly, gets good mileage, is fairly quiet, one side appears to have been rebuilt on the top end already, other side doesn't. about 180k miles on the engine, close to it. She really is a happy car. _________________ - 1977 Porsche 924 2.0 N/A (Trackday Project)

I was going to say that it was a bit excessive - passible worn valve guides or guide seals - possible flywheel seal leak - blah blah...
What did you find?
