as above... car is a 1981 2.0 N/A euro spec RHD....... car is making a horriffic graunching noise from the engine, cant pinpoint where from, car is running really rough and wont idle.

could this be a valve guide gone or would it be the bottom end?

anyone in Ireland got an engine they fancy selling?

sounds like it is self destructing
metal on metal noise
like a pump ran dry and tore aprt when seized or if you threw a bag of bolts into a washing machine.

its not the water pump, i replaced that,
its not the alternator, i replaced that.
its coming from the centre of the engine in the middle of the engine bay.

there was also some electrical smelling smoke rising from the depths of the bay, from where the clutch bell housing is but really acrid smelling.
not sure if its related but i gave up at that point and doused the bay in a Powder fire extinguisher and went home.

am in a similar mood to the man with tiny arms and itchy balls.
(f***ing touchy)

Belt tensioner?

Is the cam oiler working? The plastic elbows break.

Throw out bearing in the clutch.

Arent you supposed to be extremely restrictive with powder since it destroys all electrical components? (not that there are many on a euro 924), you migth have too look over al the electrics now.

I bit unsure though whats causing the sound, hard to hear over a forumboard.

to be honest Cedric, yes i should have been maore careful but since the car broke down on me when i was in work and it was smoking so bad after i tried to fix it i figured which was worse...

my own car electrics damaged...

or

setting fire to my collegues cars..

so i went with the extinguisher. Clutch bearing... ill look into that. anyone here in IRELAND got a jeep and a trailer theyd be willing to help me out with? its located at Dublin Airport and i need to get it home to Newry.
