Its starting to get cold and i'm wondering if there are any maintenance things I should do to get the heating system ready and to give me piece of mind. It works fine right now and I haven't ever had problems with it. The last thing I did to it was change my coolant and thermostat about 3 years ago.

As long as the heater valve is still working, you will have hot coolant going through your heat exchanger behind the dash, and plenty of warm air.

The weak link there is the wire connected to the plastic tab on the heater valve. If the temp slider on the dash gets sticky, don't force it, as this is how to break the plastic tab on the heater valve. Also, if you force the slider and bend the wire, it will screw up the ability to open the heater valve also.

Spray a little WD40 or silicone lube on the slider or control wire if it doesn't slide easily.

Digging this up from the past haha, but I think I may have busted my heater.
The heat doesnt work in my 88 924, it did at one time.
I kind of remember once or twice that slider was very tough to move.
Maybe I forced mine and it broke and thats why I get no heat. grr.
How do I go about checking and repairing that if it is broken?
Do I need to tear the whole dash apart?

thanks

The heater control valve is on the left side of the motor, between the manifold and the firewall. Check it soon. . .it is perfectly positioned to leak coolant into the clutch housing (BAD).
