I'm probably nearly on the home stretch to getting my 924 registered and after speaking to the certifier (who hasn't seen the car yet), I discovered I had to chase up child seat mounts. I had a NSW-licensed fitter kindly look at the car this morning and he is confident he can put mount points in a good spot (just behind the tail lights). I know of another Aussie who had mounting points put approximately there, so I know that's a reasonable site.

However, Porsche fitted two threaded sockets in the floor of the cargo area which look like they should be for anchoring child seats. The fitter said they weren't (too close to the seats), but I'm not sure. They might not follow NSW or Australian rules, true, but what did Porsche intend for those? They are about six inches behind the seat and look like they might take a 6mm bolt (but I haven't tried them).

I'm quite curious about these. RC had some details about them in his car.

What year is yours?

Was this specific to the ROW chassis?

Mine doesn't seem to have these.

Good points. It's an '82 ROW, originally sold in UK. So it may have been following UK rules at the time...

That thread you linked to suggests that a PO of that car indeed used one of them for anchoring a child seat. Since the car lives at my Dad's place for the moment, I have not had the presence of mind to see what thread they are - the fitter said the thread is standardised the world over to something imperial (!). NSW road rules being what they are, it is possible they simply don't conform anymore, which means they aren't to be used and a proper conforming anchor fitted. :-/

I know seat belt bolts are imperial. I didn't think that applied to child seat anchors.

Wade,

I just checked my '78 & '80 Australian Delivery cars and they both have the threaded sockets just behind back seats. I checked and there is no other locations to fit child restraints.

As these cars comply with ADR34 (Child Restraint Anchorages) required from 1-july-1976 you can be confident they are the Child Restraint Anchorage points. It also mentions the bolts are to be 5/16" UNC hexhead bolt not less than 30mm.

Good luck!
