I think once you get the rest of the air out of your system the fans should stop coming on while driving, and won't continue to run after shutdown. However, it's still best to go back to a stock thermo-fan switch so that the fans operate only when they should. _________________ '84 944 -White, Brown interior

Two sets of numbers were on it:

I also looked up the UPC code, and tried to find out what temperature thermofan switch it was. After some digging around it turns out this is a 75-70C thermoswitch, meaning it kicks the fans on at 160F... and I have the stock 190F thermostat currently installed.. sigh. Didn't think it would be the lowest temp thermoswitch available.. Think I might've found my solution.
Should I reuse the original thermoswitch or order a new one? |
Sorry, I missed this post.
With a 70-75C thermo-switch, there is no way to stop the fans from coming on until you change it. _________________ '84 944 -White, Brown interior

Great news everyone, I ordered the 92C thermofan-switch and installed it, and everything went great!
The fans do not come on until the 3rd mark, then the temperature goes all the down below the halfway mark! It only does this if the car is sitting, or in traffic. If I'm driving on the freeway, it's just barely above the first mark. Running a lot better too!
So, I guess since when the fans always came on early, the system wasn't able to pressurize, and the thermostat wouldn't open, and the car would just continue to run hot. It's kind of interesting, a higher temperature thermofan switch all this time was all I needed.
Those lousy 'German Porsche' mechanics in Lake Havasu were blaming the gauge too! Pssh.. Anyways, thanks a lot for all the help, I really do appreciate it!
Here's a quick video of it running with the new switch installed. Cheers
