I apologize if this has come up a bunch. I'm on my iPhone so I can search well at the moment.

Looking at buying a 1988 924s with low ish miles. I want to turn it into a track car while still keeping it street legal. Basically, strip the interior, replace seats, add cage, upgrade suspension. Not looking to do much with motor/transmission.

1. Anything I should look for in terms of warning signs?

2. What are some good sites for parts?

If this all comes together, I'll be sure to start a build thread.

A little more about me quick too...

I'm a bit of a motorsports enthusiast, mainly motorcycles. I road race at the club level, which I where I get my speed fix. I've also owned some fun cars as well though:

Are you trying to track it without any engine refresh?

If so, watch out for iffy compression/leakdown. Scarred bores/worn rings on a 2.5 equal a big hassle. Also evaluate the wear on the clutch by measuring the clutch fork per Clark's Garage.

HOWEVER. . .to do a track car right, I would pull the motor, do a complete front engine service, replace rod bearings, and evaluate the clutch while the motor is out. Engine pull is also a good time to refresh front suspension.

Oh yeah, I recently purchased an 'S' and even though I have to wait a bit to build it, there is still lots of research that can be done. Check out http://www.944spec.org/944SPEC/

and find the forum section and read up on everyone's car build that has been posted. These are typically done on the cheap, but mainly DIY to keep it cheap! Several skinny car builds as well, it's even helping me with my 924 turbo DE car build.
