My apologies gents if the answer is here and I haven't found it....
Has anybody used these "Hot Spark" EI units to replace the points and condenser? I am starting to look at tune up parts, and was wondering if it was worth it to do this conversion?
Any thoughts are welcome.

It looks similar to a Pertronix solution. Can't see why it might not work, its similar in function to the later style ignition system used on the 79 and later cars.
Anything solid state will almost certainly be better than points and condenser.
The curve will still be managed by the internals of the distributor, which is a good starting point.
So if you're ultimately looking to improve the ignition curve, you'd need to have someone alter the curve with different weights, springs, etc. That or lock it down and manage the timing using a digital ignition control solution, which might be ideal, but requires a certain amount of knowledge and work to accomplish. _________________ Stefan

Thanks for the feedback gents. I am not looking at improving the curve, just replacing the points and condenser once it is time to service them. I will look into the pertronix one if that is the reliable solution. _________________ 1978 924 4-spd |

What points and condensor? A '78 doesn't have points. _________________ 78 924 NA

I installed HotSpark in my car, approx 1.5 year before pulling the engine and starting the EFI conversion. I also replaced the coil, spark plug wires, and spark plugs. I can recommend such a tune up. The engine could idle low and steady, and was easy to start. No problems at all. _________________ Euro 924, 1976
