When I finally get to the repaint stage (if I have any $ left...), I want to do this. Curious if anyone else has.....any pics? _________________ PCA Licensed Club Racer & Driving Instructor Current P cars: 1981 931

I can't speak for those aftermarket kits, as the ones I installed were from an actual 968. Here are pix of my install on the 941 (this car is actually a highly modified 1980 924 Turbo, or 931. It has many interior and exterior cosmetic elements from 924S, 944, 951, and 968, so I dubbed it the "941"). The doors are the original 931 doors.
The mirrors are pretty straight forward, although I didn't bother trying to connect the wiring. I'm the only one who drives this car, so once the mirrors are set, they never need to be changed. You need to make sure you have the correct mirror base gaskets, because they are different than the flag mirrors. Even though the glass appears to be smaller than on the flag mirrors, there is something about these mirrors that I find makes them much more usable than the early ones. Especially the passenger side; on all of my cars with flag mirrors, I can't see things in the pass mirror unless I lean slightly to the right, even with the mirror fully adjusted inward. With the 968 mirrors, everything is perfectly positioned. I think there is a subtle difference as to the orientation of the plane of the mirror glass that makes these more ergonomic.
As for the door handles, you must have the correct base gaskets (front and rear), and you must have all of the correct internal linkages, as they are different. The other bugaboo is that the lock cylinders from our early cars WILL NOT swap into these handles. What I learned is that the 87-onward solid handles, script handles and 968 handles all use the same lock cylinder, which attaches in the handle differently. So point being, if you buy one of those online kits, they don't come with the lock cylinder, and you will need to find a pair from any 87-onward 944,951 or 968 (the 924S use the early style). Then you will need to get the lock cylinders re-keyed to your existing key. Not a big deal for a locksmith that can do VW stuff, but it does add to the cost. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

Ideloa, that is awesome! what a car! Thanks for sharing.
GeorgeV - thanks for the links.
note: It looks the parts sold by Lindsey are factory parts.
ps- I swapped flags for aero mirrors on my 1990 911 that I owned for about 5 years. I had the shop do the wiring so they were still electric after the swap. _________________ PCA Licensed Club Racer & Driving Instructor Current P cars: 1981 931

Dan, thanks for the info on this install. I think the 968 mirrors and handles do look at lot better than stock, as your car shows. BTW, your 941 looks great! _________________ 1981 932 with mods:

I checked Lindsey's site and it says that both kits include gaskets, and linkages for the door handles. Lock cylinders are not included. _________________ 1981 932 with mods:

I did a search for Sunset Porsche and all I got was a Porsche dealer in Oregon. Is this who you mean? _________________ 1981 932 with mods:
