Hey guys,
Just picked up an 88 924S SE. Been hunting the car for a while. Went through 2 non-porsche type owners before I got her for $800. I was bummed to see cheap black vinyl on the door panels, but upon closer inspection, saw that it was stapled on. Pulled a few staples (carefully) and there underneath was the factory original gray flannel with burgundy pin stripes!!!! SCORE!
Already sold off the welt strut brace for $100
Sold off the MOMO wheel and hub for $140
Still has racing welt sways 28/22mm to sell or put on a new 944 spec car build at my shop.
Still has 16" wheels!
This car was delivered with an 44/08 engine......an automatic! Currently has a five speed installed, tho still original engine.
I see from searching and checking out signatures that several of you have this same special model. (My brother picked one up recently as well!)
SO,...........Anybody have the medallion or "plaque" (described in the sales brochure) that came with the car?
I have great pics of the sales brochure.
I'm told by Marko that the correct fabric for the seats is avail in Germany.
How about pics of a full, original stock interior including piping and rear seats?
I see that the US version of this car had the gray and burgundy interior and was marketed as a celebration of the 250,000th 911 produced. Peter Morgan's book says the euro/RoW version was made to celebrate Porsche's 12th win at Le Mans and so got nice side decals. Great pics of the euro interior choices in that book, but not the US.
There was an article in the PANO last month that featured one of these US cars.
The plan is to make my example as close to "as delivered" as possible, not counting the auto trans.
It'll look nice next to the Martini 924, no?
Thanks for any help, guys!

Nice find. I was always under the impression that the 88 SE in USA was the same spec as the euro Lemans, of which very few were made. One of the advantages of the LeMans is the improved "MO30" suspension and the upgraded engine from 150 to 160 BHP. The LeMans was actually produced late 87 when the 150 BHP engine was current, the standard 88 S getting the 160BHP motor that year.
These were also produced in Spain as the "Spirit" for some unaccountable reason. _________________ 1984 n/a Ruby Red Metallic

Actually, the US version got the M030 package as well.
US version is "heavy" (pun intended) on the deletes as follows:
sunrooof
cassette console
passenger mirror
power windows
power locks
power hatch release
Also, not sure if the driver's mirror on my car is stock, but it's got a push-pull cable - with joystick - system for adjustment.?
Anybody have a line on a euro 88 Le Mans sales brochure to see exactly what they came with? _________________ Current project 1981 931

Thanks HARM!
I'm afraid to ask how much for the two medallions... my brother has one of these cars as well. Trade for some racing posters?
I put this car on the lift the other day because I was going to finish the oil cooler seals. Popped off the side rocker extensions to sell. Cleaned some stuff up. Then, grabbed a rear wheel to check the bearing and it was rotating fine but took some effort. More than normal. I looked over at the other wheel and it was spinning the same direction! Damn thing ALSO HAS AN LSD! .......SCORE!!
I love this car......... _________________ Current project 1981 931

There is no power hatch release delete on these cars and, yes, your mirror adjustment is manual as described (it's VW Golf mirror). It was possible to order these cars with power roof - saw one a few years ago that had a power roof. |

My SE has a power hatch release and a power sunroof. Has 6 and 7 inch wide, 15 inch phone dials for wheels.

Rasta, totally agree. I should offer that owner a white face gauge.
Paul, thanks for the great pic of the interior. Has anybody seen these seats around, no matter what condition they are in?
I'll check about my hatch release and see if I can post a pic of the sales brochure. I'm working on a salesman's fact book for the car. _________________ Current project 1981 931

I do have new seat covers (front and rear) for mine which will be installed at some point in time hopefully in the near future. The old seats would be available. The driver seat has the usual wear from getting in and out, the passenger seat is fine. The rear seat bottom is fine with no wear but the upper part on the nackrest is faded by the sun, which I covered up (it actually looks pretty good since I used the original fabric for the cover). If interested I can send you some pics. |

Thanks Andre. Please send pics of what you have. I was thinking I could get the correct fabric, but not the original piping.
Looks like the german description of our SE's says the cars came with a "plakatte", which was translated into english as "plaque." It should have been described as a medallion? So there is no plaque? As in a wooden 8" x 12" plaque.
That same german description said our cars had the 4 spoke steering wheel from the later 944's.
Still working on the salesmen's fact book........ _________________ Current project 1981 931
