When I unscrew my gas cap I have to let the pressure bleed off before I fully open the cap. The pressure bleeds off for a good 20 seconds. Is this normal or do I need a new gas cap. _________________ 1978 924

No, not normal. And not the gas cap either. It has something to do with the emissions/fuel out gas recapture circuit, of which the charcoal canister is a part.
I can't remember the exact reason this happens but back in the day, the fuel system was designed to recover evaporated gas back into the fuel circuit and/or the charcoal canister to minimize emissions. When the setup gets plugged up, you get that pressurized gas tank. Search around for gas tank vent or charcoal canister or something like that. You'll find the threads on this problem. |

Can someone please direct me to an article about servicing the charcoal canister. Could this gas pressure have something to do with my high idle problem. _________________ 1978 924
