Are you asking about the 924S?

Have you read the wiki article on the cars? That should tell you what you want to know.

In a nutshell: The 924S is an early 944 in a slinky dress. Of course the 944 is based on the 924 chassis, so many of the chassis parts between the 924, 924S and 944 can be swapped around. Only the 924S and 944 share the engine, crossmember, electronics and steering rack.

yes i was.

i dont trust wiki all that far.only up to a point.

i was also truing to work out which parts were changed from steel (on the 924) to aluminium (924s). i know things like the boot carpet are not interchangable from the 924 to the 924s.

As fiat said, the 924S is mostly an early 944. I say mostly because up until the firewall it is a 1984 944 with 924 fenders. Under the hood is a late engine and late radiator with late engine management, but using an early harness and transmisson. After the firewall/Dashboard, it is a 1985.5 944 with late sunroof, late back seat, late sunroof, late aluminum trailing arms... and even the holes for the 951 rear spoiler!

As you can see the 924S is a hodgepodge of parts meant to keep costs down. You could probably write a book on all the things different, but I tried to cover them without making the post too long... anyway, I hope that helps!

ahh the aluminium arms, whats corrostion like around suspension mountings? and things like gearbox and crossmember? is the crossmember alloy? and i am guessing the block is alloy with the alusil liners?
does this cause corrosion problems where it mounts? or does the zinc phosphate electroplating help?

There aren't any issues with corrosion around the suspension or anywhere else. The cross-member is alloy and bolted directly to the frame rails, and I've never seen a 944 with any reaction there... so there is nothing to worry about.

The engine block material is Alusil, meaning that it is liner-less.

I hope that helps!
