Hi all,
I've got a Carrera GT replica based on a series 2 turbo:
Which has looked more like this recently:
The headgasket blew and it has been at my local Porsche dealer for a cylinder head refresh and a replacement headgasket. It has been a bit of a challenge, but the car is back together now and apparently a lot better than before. HOWEVER the mechanic heard a rattle in the metering head and when he put a magnet down there, it came out with a 2mm ball bearing. They're worried it's from the turbo, but I would've thought that would go bang by now? Could it be from the metering head? Without knowing where it's from and just wanting to drive my car with some peace of mind again, it's making me nervous!
Thanks in advance for any insight! _________________ 1982 924 Turbo with Carrera GT kit, TMIC & DITC |

Cant be from the turbo. Maybe its from the metering head..since its rotating, the metering scale should have a couple of ball bearings...i have not opened a metering scale that much tho. Look it up in PET, you should be able to see the components there. If its not there, its a forign object. _________________ Supercharger and EFI kits

I don't think there are any ball bearings in the fuel distributor but then again that's one chore I haven't had to deal with yet so maybe an expert will chime in.
Any yes, I see the as well. looks like he is driving. _________________ 1982 931- Stock with MBC at 8psi

There are no ball bearings anywhere in the kkk turbo. That ball is from the control lever assembly.
I see sad black gumby. |

Haha, I never noticed the face before, I can't unsee it now!
Got another problem - The inlet manifold/IC seal blew yesterday. Got a new one and still it keeps popping off? They think it's the mounts for the IC but could there be another problem at play? It's a genuine Carrera GT IC with the proper mounts. _________________ 1982 924 Turbo with Carrera GT kit, TMIC & DITC |

What the orange o-ring?
You can buy a replacement at any o-ring specializing store.
Make sure you tell them the temp range you need it for.
Mine was also busted, replaced it for beer money 7 years ago. _________________ Supercharger and EFI kits

Yeah, they got one in this morning. With the new o-ring, it's still popping off. I'm worried there's a problem with the boost pressure? The technician said it's very fast now. _________________ 1982 924 Turbo with Carrera GT kit, TMIC & DITC |

They forgot to connect the line going to the wastegate?
Sorry to say it but it sounds like your mechanics dont know that much about this car.
If you push it with high boost it will blow the HG again pretty soon.
Perhaps they bought the wrong size o-ring too. It should not pop-off anyway because the charge tube is held in place by a bracket and screw. _________________ Supercharger and EFI kits
