Would anybody be interested in some simple custom parts being made available again? I have use of a pretty extensive machine shop here at school and was looking at some of the stuff that's been produced and think I could easily do the same.

What initially comes to mind is the G31 short shifter that has been produced before. I have access to a CNC lathe and started to model a part up in CAD.

Another that comes to mind is the trigger wheels for an EFI solution. I can model this easily and plasma cut it, I need to investigate some more dimensions though.

I also could do a strut brace--while there has been discussion on whether or not the cars utilize it without first stiffening the suspension, I could make them either way.

Any interest or other ideas?

Ideola has supplied the trigger wheel. However, there is a real need for a VR sensor mount for both stock and custom (track-car) applications. Another option on the wheel is to have it mounted to the face of the v-belt pulley (with an opening for a socket on the crank pulley bolt). However, not many of those out there run true anymore.

I would think mounting behind the pulley would be optimal. Though you would have to space out the rest of the accessories, you wouldn't have to rely on the straightness of the pulley.

I am going home for Christmas and can pull a crank pulley of a car to measure up the bolt pattern etc. How large should the trigger wheel be?

Any ideas on a VR sensor mount? I believe there was one Ideola had prototyped. I have access to a 3 axis CNC though and should be able to come up with something if I have an idea to go off of. The problem is I have not done EFI (yet) so I am not completely sure on what is the optimal setup.

Here's mine with the engine on a stand. I used a piece of sheet metal, drilled two holes in it, one to attach it to the engine bracket you see here, and one for a fuel line bracket. Garage booger, but it worked! In the upper part of photo, the aforementioned front of pulley option, was not very circular, sorta a elliptical pattern~!

I can pull a crank pulley to get the mounting pattern for a trigger wheel. Any ideas on what would be an optimal diameter and how deep the teeth should be?

I will have to investigate the sensor mount over break.

Rasta, I have never worked or taken a close look at a 2.5l motor. I see the pics of a delete bracket on Lindsey Racing and it would definitely be something easy to make. I can model something up in CAD no problem if I get some inputs as to dimensions. It looks to have fairly planar geometry so it should be easy to CNC.

I'm with Rasta, I would like a A/C delete bracket also. They should be simple to make, and anything has to be better than the one I had. You can have it if you need dimensions, its worthless to me.

PM Sent.

I will look into the bracket first. It looks easy to CNC. I will also see if I can find a 2.5 motor to see where I can beef it up without clashing with other parts.

How much can you push through the school shop ?
If I feed you .igs solid files can you do the master cam or other conversion ? Native files are solid works or Inventor. I work in both.

I have a bunch of stock from my automation business I put aside/ stuffed into basement as I am working for a Large firm now but still have my manual machines / tig etc.

Stock: Alum 6061-t6 bars 1-2 - 4 "6" and plates 1/2 -3/4 some 1" and some Alum CRS and SST rounds + flats etc. a lot of misc. that could be sent USPS fat rate.

At work we just had some Alum plates waterjet cut through an outside shop and and they killed it + even jetted the holes and it was within about .005.No huge pile of chips in the machine and the machine could have repeatably cut a bunch from one plate. Great for profiles like this in plate stock.
Seeing the cracks all this areas, could have different radii and or web thickness in those areas and likely be x2 stronger min.

Don't forget the VR mounting bracket~! The A/C delete bracket is already out there, these are not.

There are miles of space all around it. Just use a solid piece like Lindsey and it should be fine.

I am still not clear on what the VR mounting bracket should look like exactly. I see it in the pic, but is it a flat piece? Or does it have contours?

I would CNC the A/C bracket. I think larger radii would help the problem. My guess is that it failed from fatigue due to vibrations.

+1

I had to install the factory bracket, which is twice as thick with the turbo in place so there is plenty of room.

However, making it thicker won't be necessary; just use a solid piece like Rasta mentioned. There is a lot of stress on the back of the bracket, causing it to twist when the alternator is loaded. The rest of the fractures formed after that had failed.
