Was just having a quick look around the car today for potential RWC issues that may come up when I have it running properly again (I think I am pretty close). One thing I noticed was that the spring plates seem to be sitting in their bushes like the bush is totally screwed (ie the spring plate seems to be sitting in way which looks like the bush is gone because they are touching at the top, if you can picture it). I guess my question is... is this likely to be just a matter of replacing the inner and outer spring plate bushes... or is there likely to be torsion bar sag as well. I am sure someone knows what the usual state of affairs is when this happens.
Also the torsion bar setup looks a lot like the super beetle setup how close are they? and following from this, and knowing that often removing the spring plates can be a real PITA in old VW's, how hard is doing the spring plates? and do they suffer from the same issues as old VW's where the torsion bars stick because of poor (or just really old) lubrication of the spines. and finally is it expensive? _________________ 1977 924 NA Auto |

On my '77 the bushings behind spring plates are the knobby ones from a VW Beetle. I put in new urethane ones and it still looked off center like that when loaded. The later TB carriers use the much larger surface area sleeve bushings and maybe look(and work?)better. Unfortunately the later TB carriers mount differently. _________________ Mike
