Hi Guys,

Matt here from New Zealand. I am currently looking at a 924 to purchase, and was just wondering if you guys could give me some tips on what to look for, things to check etc when I inspect it? And whether it is a good model, or if I should look for a different spec'd 924 etc.

The one I am looking at is here - http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=955675905

I know its fairly high mileage, but it looks to have been well maintained. Plus Im a qualified Mechanic so labour involved jobs don't phase me too much, more concerned about common parts that might fail/need to check that could cost a fortune.

Thanks in Advance

Well, I would not know what to look for since I am considering buying myself, But I'd say go for it and sort out whatever comes next. Being a mechanic I am sure you can handle it!

She's looks good, that's for sure!

that does not look like a 924 turbo to me...4 lug..thats probably 924...and it has a 944 body....and in the ad it says its a 2.5L...its a strange car.

Missmatched wheels and brakes(4 lug rears and 5 lug fronts) filler made front bumper...its a mess...dont buy this car !

The car is registered as a 2Litre, the engine in it is a 2L, Im assuming it was a typo.

I had a feeling that year/model should of had the 5 stud gear on it.

No engine pictures? I'd either ask for more pictures to verify that it is infact a 931 based car (which had 4-lug brakes in the US in the early models, I thought ROW got 5-lug by default?)

I wonder if it was built/modified in the UK or another, similar RHD market before being imported?

Definately a "unique" car that I'd approach carefully.

And don't be discouraged if you have to look at a few before you land on the preferred car, anyone on this forum will tell you buy the best car you can afford. Ba use once you have it you are going to want to drive it everywhere.

I have had mine for 7 years. I love driving the 924, wherever I can. So take your time and buy well.

Also there is some debate 924s are increasing in value, I think it's more the turbo than the na, but who knows.

Good luck an keep us updated on your the search for your next ride.

Cheers

Lefty

Check for leaks leaks leaks...cam cover leaks, power steering hose leaks...oil leaks...these are old cars and the seals get old and the hoses get hard...if there are leaks just be prepared to have some money to buy replacement parts.

I am having a look at the car this weekend.

From what I've read the earlier turbo engines had trouble? Is there a way to tell the two apart if this is in fact had a different engine or similar transplanted into it.

It was imported into the country in '84, so I guess anything could of happened in the two years before it came in.

Exhaust manifolds like to crack, later S2 cars had slightly stronger castings, but still can crack (this car should be an S2 I believe if it truly is a turbo)

931 top rings are thinner and are prone to crack if abused.
