Sorry about this as I'm sure it's been discussed many times, but a search for 'speaker' reveals door and rear speaker replacement, but not dash.
With thanks! _________________ New first time 1987 924S owner - April 2016

The center speaker grill pulls up and out, it is just press-fit into some white plastic grommets that insert into the dash. Once that is off, you will see that there are four phillips head screws holding the speaker in. When removing these, be careful to capture the small white spacers behind the speaker mounting flange so they don't drop down behind the dash. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

Pulled off the central speaker grill as described above, only to find no speaker, but also no wires anywhere visible that would have connected to the speaker. Was the central dash speaker an option? Seems unlikely! _________________ New first time 1987 924S owner - April 2016

This isn't 100% sure information, but I remember reading from somewhere that it was an option and most of the people didn't get it since it wasn't working as a subwoofer, but instead played right (or left if your car is LHD) side channel basically making the sound quality worse.
My '85 doesn't have it mounted either. |

Apparently the either/or choice (at some stage) was mono, central speaker, or stereo with door speakers. Mine has door speakers. That above mentioned 4" x 6" speaker from Amazon, might be a good fit for the central speaker, but even with all the trimming is a poor fit for the door. The original Blaupunkt (Made in W. Germany!) I just removed was very similar to the new replacement, but not identical. _________________ New first time 1987 924S owner - April 2016
