|

Hi, any advice appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Hot/warm start problem. Car will still start when hot. Car runs very nicely once started.
Within 15 mins of shutdown - starts fine.
15 mins - 2 hours after shutdown - needs about 10-15 secs of cranking, then splutters on 2 cyls for a couple of secs and then starts and runs fine. Always starts.
Cold - starts perfectly.
Considering:
1) the vehicle has had accumulator and both fuel pumps replaced in the last four years, and really hasn't done much mileage in that time ... and
2) always starts when warm, just needs encouragement ...
I am thinking injectors are leaking and creating a vapour lock?
I'm not thinking the WUR is the issue, I'd think she wouldn't start when warm if it was?
Trying to identify if I can order some injectors, or do I really have to perform further diagnostics? _________________ '81 Porsche 924 NA

Here's what I would do, in order:
1. When the car is warm, you should be depressing the accelerator pedal all the way to the floor until it starts. Have you been doing this? This practice is called for in the owners manual, and cures many a hot start problems.
2. If that doesn't fix it, the next thing I would do to test your theory on leaky injectors is to pull all four of them, put them in glass jars, and do the "injector test" to see how they're spraying. Procedure is described in Haynes.
3. If that checks out, then you need to do a complete CIS test using a proper CIS tester. Instructions here: http://www.924board.org/viewtopic.php?t=35734 _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

Is this "standard procedure" for starting in a healthy car, Dan? |

Yes. It is right in the owner's manual. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

Thanks Dan,
I'll try the "foot to the floor" method, and if needed check flow. I'll report back ... _________________ '81 Porsche 924 NA
