Hello everyone.
I am recently a first time Porsche owner. I purchased the lowly 1987 924s. I live off the beaten path and need to drive gravel to get anywhere.
I absolutely love this car. During the day I drive heavy trucks, combines, very expensive large hp tractors. It is such a treat to get in a manual and let her go.
I bought one that seems quite sound but has lots of little things to work on.
Like the tach. Id like that to work.
Great forum, thanks for adding me.

Hi Paul,
Welcome aboard. I highly recommend that you put in some Hella eCode headlights. They will really brighten up the road when you drive at night and it's an easy painless swap. Scroll down on this page to see them:

Welcome Paul. This is a great forum for a 924S owner. I'm surprised no one else mentioned it but if the condition of the timing belt is unknown, change it ASAP. The 924S/944 engine is a collision design and if that belt breaks or skips some teeth the valves will be trashed. There's plenty of info for DYI. One of the most comprehensive is Clark's garage...

I had the timing belt changed right away. I have an S 10 sitting in the trees now because that wasn't done.
How does the tach work on these?
I hope to wrench on it this winter. |

The tach uses the coil signal from the DME (green wire). It is powered by a black wire running from the DME relay and grounded by a brown wire on the side of the body.
I hope the helps! _________________ '84 944 -White, Brown interior
