since it possible the AMC block and clutch parts might fit the 924 and are likely cheaper , and myself and others are hesitant to spend several hundred dollars to find out. what if we chip in and buy a few test parts , say a clutch parts pres. plate ,disk and bearings or ,oil pump, and main and rod bearings (in the 1-2 hundred dollars price range ) . 1 of the senior members would do the comparisons , and if the parts are a direct replacement , 1 name of the people who chipped in, is pulled from a hat ,and that person wins the parts . 15 people $10 each what do ya say .

They should fit ..huh. I had a concorde a 79 blue one. Put a hole in the block
also buy running down the freeway with no oil on my way to drill one winter day. I think this is a great idea.

That is a pretty open question.

The question would be , do you want to even consider using the AMC versions? Even if cheaper, do the hold up as well.

The AMC engine wasn't rated high on the HP.

The head isn't machined for fuel injector ports.

The pan and valve covers are stamped steel.

They share the same water pump and oil pump.

The belt cover is AMC, intakes are for the two barrel single carb.

I don't remember what the exhaust Manifold looks like.



I haven't pulled the 4 speed off the one engine, (the other two are Autos). So the clutch is unknown.

One of these days when I've liquidated most all my junk I'll tear into these engines to find out how similar they are internally.

those who can afford and want the best quality , will go with OEM every time . the thing is I believe alot of 924's have been parted or gone to the race track in the sky because thier owners counldnt afford the high dollar parts , and didnt know less exspensive parts were available . yesterday , following links , I saw that some VW's use a 4 spring rubber center clutch disk , I thought it would be nice for the S owners if they'll work in the 924 ,instead of having to pay $1000 for the porsche unit . I think the if we find all the vw parts that fit the 924 they will be cheaper than the amc parts simply through the volumn of vw's sold world wide . i saw a rebuilt vw trans for sale commercially , it was $400 , the sychro's for my 924 cost more than that . the search continues .

I wish you guys lived closer, I would have you all over on a weekend to dissect these engines.

oh , and also , it may incourage people to experiment , like buying and stroking a spirit crank shaft . or there may be high or low comp ratio pistons available , light fly wheels etc . or just using the amc bottom end for racing , turn up the boost and go like stink , so what if it detonates , its cheap , if you get 1 season out of a $300 engine and a few almost wins , it might be worth the trouble .

Years ago I did a comparison of bore and stroke via the chiltons manauls.

And there were some close sizes and exact on in the chevy line.

Imagine cheap chevy pistons with dome that can be machined to build high compression NA pistons.

I think a 2.0 turbo with 9 to 1 compression under no boost would run like a stripped ass ape with low boost of 7 to 8 psi.

With modern valve springs, good fuel and a knock sensor you might even be able go higher on the CR so your low end stats would be full of torque and then the engine would really scream when it got into boost

for the longest time I was wanting to follow a factory line of performance improvements.

But I think the tiem is ready for a break from what was doen before and start to experiment.

I plan to knife edge a crank.

Build a sump pan and add a sump pump.

I think doing a two part cooling system, one for the head the other for th eblcok would let you get away from blown headgasket issues.

If you blew the gasket the results wouldn't be catasprophic.

A fuel rail and whatever kind of EFi that could be mapped would be cool.

Get rid of all the vacuum crap and weight of the CIS.

It all sounds good er great. That stinken amc concorde anway.
Though the chevy thing with the pistons would be way cool.
I think sleykin can run milling equipment.. Although a machinist
wouldnt be that hard to find from a shop or a friend. Tell me more

Think of all the piston blanks out there for the chevy engines. Might even be some polished forged rods with the right size ends.

To bad you guys don't live close.

I've got basically an example of every type of 2.0 liter part.

You guys could empty out the building and sort through it all, take pictures and measurements.
