I always cringe when I hear it said improperly and have taken on the gruesome task of correcting everyone that speaks the name "Porsch"
Even in the situation where someone will ask me what kind of cars I have..when I get to the Porsche....they will repeat the name "porsch" in an effort to correct my ignorance!
So how many know the name of their cars and do any of you feel the same as I????
I do have one close alli (spelling?)...my 5 year old son! He corrects anyone who says it wrong. _________________ 1976 924

I have to admit that that the Anglicised pronunciaton, 'Porsch', sounds less (dare I say it?) pretentious to me. But I certainly wouldn't criticise
anyone who attempts to reproduce the original German pronunciation.
BTW, the original German pronunciation sounds closer to 'Por-scheh' to me. _________________ 1985 Porsche 924 'Lux', Kalahari Beige (my ex)

Funny...I read it was the exact opposite and the family pronounces it without the "uh" and that claimed also to be a fact, not opinion. I think that was on Rennlist though...what do they know?
Frankly, I think actually correcting someone about it is worse than the offense itself and only reinforces a negative stereotype about the owners.
You forgot an option on the poll..."Do you care?" |

I keep tropical fish, primarily members of the "Botia" family. AFAIK the correct pronunciation is "Bo-Tea-Ahh" but I've yet to find anyone here in the UK in the aquarium scene who doesn't say "Bo-Sha"... Bit of pointless info, but I thought I'd share anyway....
Out of interest, when you try to verbate the "A?" (questioning) sound in text, should it be "A?", "Ay?", "Aye?" or "Eh?"? I'm bored, yes, can you tell yet? _________________ Mars Red '78 Euro 924 n/a

Very simple answer! Learn German. Do a Google and the answer is clear.
I am German and my last name is Glassinger and Americans pronounce it GLASS ING ER or GLASSIN jur. But it actually GLAUZZ in jur. Americans will always pronounce as read in English. There is no English word for PORSCHE as it is a NAME not a word.
If it were a common word- E sounds like AY in German. Dal |

| I was born in germany and lived there for some time and i speak german (not fluently) and i thought it was porsche not porscha i never heard of germans pronouncing it porscha .. but then again in german i think they don't have a silent e in the end of words like they do in english (ex done, some etc) so it is probably corrctly pronounced porscha. |

Try this 924, 931, 944, 911 on and on. If the person does not know what you are talking about walk away. I like to confuse Johnny come lately 911 owners with " I have a 931". A what? _________________ "Never let them see you sweat"

Germans might have a problem speaking gramatically correct as do Americans do for instance......Most say "fer" instead of "for" or in New York the word ASK is AXed. Or even better PROBLY instead of PROBABLY. Oh and I can go on and on!
Yes you can say I am a stickler for proper grammar/pronunciation. |

| You are so correct Melon! It is a very silent one at that too. The accent is not on the end but more on the ch. |

Good for you dgz, it's amazing how much more intelligent one sounds when they use the language (whatever language) properly. I particularly like people who get upset when you point out their horrible grammer. That really speaks volumes about their intelect. _________________ MJ
