G'day Jeff, welcome to the club! Are you gonna use the '76 a project car or parts car? I reckon a '76 car would be a bit of a rarity! I think that's the first year they were made...
So it doesn't run too well, but how is everything else? I mean, is it falling apart at the seams or is it in reasonable condition?
And what's a '97 Pontiac GTP? Big, heavy Yank-tank? From what I've seen of American cars, you'd need 370+hp just to get 'em moving! _________________ '80 924 Turbo |

Browning welcome! I'll never understand how some of you guys are lucky enough to find parts cars. I guess its a geographical thing. _________________ I have a 78 n\a currently under restoration. |

hey thanks yes a gtp is a fairly big car around 3800lbs i've played with imports before. had a extremly fast eagle talon awd drive.handled great high tens in quarter but wasn't a good daily driver was complete hell in parking lots"welded dif" oversteered great at higher speeds just not under 15mph.turbo lag around 4200rpm.after the wife had our first baby i had to sell it the gtp is a good family car i was always looking for light fun car to play with "grew up around mg's".my dad bought the 79 for $400 it has the sun roof spoiler but has some elec problems.then talking to a freind and he told me where there was another one ended up being the 76 no spoiler or sunroof manual windows pretty basic no rust or dents everthing is there just needs a major tune up.and a def paint job seats are both ripped other than that shes all there.plan on building the 76 as kind of summer car.the other i'm getting just to have.you can never have to many toys |

No, it's completely stock, 240HP. I special ordered it in Jan 96, took delivery on income tax day.
This past weekend I was trying to find the short that is causing the A/C, fan, thermostat, rear window defogger, "Driver's Information Center" and daytime-running-lights to not work. They seem to be on 3 separate but "parallel" circuits, all next to one another on the aux fuse panel. I tore out the main and aux fuse panel, inspected all wiring, but everything looks OK in the engine compartment. This weekend I'll be tracing things under the dash... I HATE electrical problems, especially those that really have an impact (A/C, thermostat & fan controls). _________________ '79 Eurospec 931 |

the gtps have a horrible history with trannies the input shaft is pretty weak.and the dif tends to go south.the 97 has a stronger input shaft than the later years.but if you ever get a chance swap the stock dif for a lsd.makes a world of diference good luck on the electrical gremlin |
