I'm posting my steps to re-curve my distributor.
Pully marks=
3 degrees =.13 =1/8inch
6=.27 = 1/4
10 =.45
16=.72
20=.90
24=1.08
26=1.17
30=1.35
40=1.8
My finished actual stock curve and my proposed goal.
Here are my problems with the stock curve:
1. The secondary spring is engaging way too late at about 12 to 16 degrees. This is because the spring free play is wide. The spring actually sits loose on the posts and can be moved back and forth. I’ve seen this in 2 distributors. I’m not sure why.
It does help bring the stock curve in to full advance a little earlier but at the very most the maximum advance for the primary spring should be 12 degrees. This is noted in the Haynes manual within the specs for the distributor curve. I think the wide secondary may be a way around dropping to the next spring weight in a stock distributor.
I’m hopefully looking at 8.5 degrees for the secondary spring engagement.
2. We will never reach full advance until about 4500 rpm and that’s at about 90 mph in 4th gear, which equals loss of power- and poor gas mileage.
I can almost feel the car ignition chasing the piston down now.
I'm shooting for full advance at 3500 rpm and that’s about 65 mph in 4th.
I'm also hoping to see a performance gain in the lower torque.
I’ve never been happy with first and second gear and I usually shift and cruise at 35 to 3800 rpm.
3.
With the wide secondary spring engaging so late, I cannot advance my timing more than 3 degrees without my idle rising above 1200 rpm.
With a secondary spring at post-to-post spacing, I should see a steady idle at possibly 6 degrees because the secondary will now help the primary return and hold stock idle speed.
I just received my test distributor from Mikri.
Thanks Mike-- more to come _________________ 1978 924 95 mile daily driver.

I knew that positive thinking thing wouldn't work. |
