I'm trying to pinpoint exactly which ground-wire you're referencing for the power mirrors....Between my taillights in the hatch area I have two contact blocks both with several wires connected to them and one ground wire down next to the spare-tire well. I have no idea what any of these wires are for so any help is, as always, appreciated.
BTW- Yeah, I know I need to get a Haynes manual, but noone around here has any in stock. I need to run down to the store and put one on order. Until then, though, you guys seem to be a much better source of information than any reference book since you guys have "been there."
Thanks!!! |

Apologies for preempting Smoothie's answer, but at that point you should find brown earth wires for left rear light cluster/side marker if fitted, right rear ligt cluster/side marker, number plate lamps, luggage compartment light, fuel pumps and fuel sender unit. It's hard to tell from the Haynes book where the rear window demister grounds - but that's a thicker black wire - someone on here will know. I had a problem one day when the fuel pump wouldn't work - this earth terminal had got a little corroded and needed cleaning, which sorted it.
According to Haynes, the seat belt warning relay (if you have one) also grounds there and there's the reports of the power mirrors going there too. It's a bizarre location for either of those, but it wouldn't surprise me a great deal...
BTW eBay always seems to have a good supply of Haynes manuals. _________________ 1980 931 (with the odd electrical quirk...) |

Thanks guys!
Actually, my car seems to be wired differently from that picture smoothie. All the wires you have going to that ground are going to little contact blocks on mine and I only have ONE wire going to that ground point. But at least I'm now pointed in the right direction.
Maybe I'm a little twisted, but I'm actually having FUN fixing all these little problems. Sort of a sense of accomplishment, you know? |
